Changed the leadership who decided to cut production costs as much as possible(exeter move) to increase the companies on paper profitability which increases how much they get payed + possible bonuses+ increasingly valuable stock options they already had. They don't care about their brand or their consumer, they are simply motivated by greed.

They got a little better from their all time low point a ways back but they'll never get back to the level they were at in the 90s.

In an effort to make the company more profitable they stopped doing rigorous quality control, outsourced small parts, and relied on marketing to try and boost sales numbers. A big part of this was selling the same gun in a dozen different trims rather than innovating things and producing new models.
Kimber's quality suffered, people started raking them over the coals on forums, and their name was basically mud for a very long time after.

When Ron Cohen joined SIGSAUER the whole community collectively facepalmed. At one point the P226 was available in about 30 different cosmetic configurations. Not a smart business move. It didn't work out for them, neither did their numerous failures in the rifle market.
