its not just the fact its on the slide. plenty of other guns like metal framed smiths, rugers, the p38 had slide safetys and nobody cared.
the things that make the 92 especially annoying is the fact it auto decocks when you put it on safe and that there is a very limited space where you can grab the slide. essentially just the serrations anything forwards and you burn yourself on the barrel. you have to train yourself to only touch a very small part of the slide when you rack it. or you hurtyourself/engage the safety accidentally. if a 92 fs was the only gun youve ever handled its not a big deal.

My LGS here in GA buys them from local PD's. PD's by law have to sell or hold the stuff, can't destroy, so Atlanta has over 10k guns last I heard in storage because they don't want to sell them because muh feels but rural places commonly sell them to get money for new supplies.
