hurricane specific you need
camp stove
water for a week
easy food for a week
simple tools
tarps
flashlights
shovel
a few cans of gas
>expert mode
chainsaw
generator
kayak
i forget what else
guns, lots of guns

fill your bathtub with water
any sturdy containers you have too
move all your good shit as high in your house as you can
get anything outside like lawn furniture inside
>>
>>34965220
>fill your bathtub with water
Tip with this- if you have plastic bags, fill the bags with water, and then put them in the tub. This reduces evaporation, and the chance that the tub might leak.

to expand on that if you have garbage bags and boxes, double up the bags put them in the boxes where you want them to live for the duration and fill them with a hose. store them high, the only drawback is them catastrophically failing and causing additional flooding, if you put them in the tub it's not a concern. closed bags won't have evaporative loss as mentioned, they also won't become contaminated by debris

Canyon Lake,
I'm really high up but the surrounding areas/towns catch all of our runoff. Wimberley was really devastated a few years back and a number of people near the river were killed. If I remember correctly a 30 foot wall of water basically destroyed a large area and a number of trees were all pushed down in one direction as if a tsunami went through.

There are plenty of things worth rolling the dice on but your life isn't one of them. If you live in an area that can flood get out while you can. Be safe anons.

that prediction model was when they thought it might get to a cat 3, with them thinking it will make landfall at a strong cat 3 or possibly a weak cat4 they have bumped those rain chances. They are saying some spots could get 36+ inches of rain between Friday and Tuesday.

Sugar Land here. The city spent the last year massively overhauling the drainage systems and spillways. Also based on how well we fared before all the updates with Allison, Ike, and Rita, I think I'll be fine. I beat the rush for provision but I could get more gas for the generator. It's very unlikely that there will be looters where I am but I have a few mags loaded. The worst part for me is that I left my kayak in Kentucky.

so i'm not in the path of this, but if one were coming at me i'd have no plans to evacuate. i'm in good health, have a three story elevated storm resistant house, have steel storm shutters for all windows, have food and water and boats. what type of assistance might i need from all those emergency personnel who want me to leave so they don't have to rescue me?

This. How could anyone have thought that guaranteeing insurance for people who make the retarded decision to build their houses over and over on floodplains and swamps? If I built my house right under an active volcano and it erupts and buries my house in lava, nobody would expect the government to swoop in and pay me for another house right on top of the old one...

>>

The point of the NFIP was for communities to create standards and encourage proper development and then be rewarded with the ability to purchase flood insurance. Reckless development that was contrary to good sense was supposed to be unable to acquire flood insurance, at least from the government.

But here we are, where sense was thrown out the window and communities and developers dictated to the government unsound standards and we have an insolvent mess where people are constantly bailed out.

Now, I'm not saying that everyone who files a flood insurance claim is a fraudster or welfare queen. In fact, the claims process for flood insurance is completely bullshit. The simple truth is that there is a lot of development that didn't have regard for proper drainage or flood plains.

its also the speed of the hurricane.

since it is moving at a much slower speed it will dump significantly more water than a normal one. futhermore they are saying this hurricane will stay a hurricane 2 days after it makes landfall which is rare, and then afterwards this possibly will go back into the gulf as it makes its way towards houston and western louisiana which has been inundated with rain since the beginning of august.
>>
>>34972609
Meh, most of the areas in coastal Louisiana are capable of dealing with several feet of of rainfall over the course of a few days. At least the large population areas like Lake Charles, Lafayette, Baton Rouge, and New Orleans. Some of the suburbs might not have the necessary infrastructure, however.

>>
>>34974775
Dude it just went cat 4 and I'd still gathering strength. It's gonna hit a large chunk of Texas with flooding.
>>
>>34974847
well the surge is just the water level you then have to take the waves into account. I heard on the news last night when they were saying the surge was 12' that waves could get up to 20-30' so who knows what the hell could happen now.

I've gone as a kid a few times to corpus and it was always such a shit show. I have no clue how that city can prosper with it just being a garbage place to live.

>>34974873
I was just stating to correct that point, desu I was wrong as well. I put 36" every 6 months which obviously is wrong since Houston gets the most rain out of major cities and they get like 50-60" per year.

>>34974894
Downtown SA is ~140mi as the crow flies from Mustang Island. Downtown Austin is ~ 180mi, and is much further north than any computer model I've seen for harvey, but I think what will happen is power is going to go down for alot of south and south cen texas because of this and who knows what will happen to the power grid.

The probability of your survival drops by the second. While this is lamentable, it has afforded you an opportunity to amuse future generations. Please insert a dragon dildo into your rectum, don a ushuanka and clutch a nugget tightly. Hopefully, your corpse will be discovered as a fossil by people thousands of years from now.

Texas is 12 times larger than Britain.
It is also a major producer of crude oil, natural gas and gasoline.
We EXPORT that stuff to the rest of the country.
There are billions of dollars at play in just the oil rigs and refiners all along the coast.

The hurricane is heading right for these kind of structure- oil refineries.

Also, be careful when buying a new car.
Back when Katrina struck, people were ``refurbishing'' moldy and rusted out cars from Katrina and shipping them out to the west coast.
People on the West Coast aren't necessarily going to be familiar with the tell-tale signs of a flooded car because that never happens out there.

As any American can tell you, a tornado can wreck an entire neighborhood and leave a single house in that neighborhood completely unscathed.
If that shed hasn't collapsed, it's because it was lucky that the hurricane didn't throw any heavy objects in its general direction.

>>34976560
Those fuels still have to be processed somewhere. It would only ``make sense'' to move onto something new if that new thing was fucking amazing, or if the new thing was slightly better while the old thing was completely demolished

>On ave SA gets 30" per year,

SA sure isn't a rain forest!! It's averages about 16-18 inches on average/median.
>>
>>34975596
Which part?
>>
>>34976758
http://www.usclimatedata.com/climate/san-antonio/texas/united-states/ustx1200

Ave Annual Rainfall - 32.91"

http://www.edwardsaquifer.net/climate.html

Ave Annual Rainfall - 30.38"

http://www.crh.noaa.gov/Image/ewx/sat/satmonrain.pdf

Ave Annual Rainfall 1871- 2013 = 29.11"
Ave Annual Rainfall 1981 - 2010 = 32.27"

Like I said San Antonio is not high desert. If we were like Santa Fe then sure we'd be looking at
10-20" a year.
>>
>>34977092
It does seem to be more than I thought it was.... but it seems to literally be either drought or flood here....
and I'd bet the median is closer to the 20's when you take out flood years.

Here's a more local explanation and chart:
http://www.edwardsaquifer.net/climate.html
>>
>>34977226

162.550 noaa weather radio has dire predictions of 10-20 inches of rain over 2-3 days. and bad river flooding in the SA to San Marcos area- especially East of IH35

Thanks for reposting a website that I posted in my above post. It really strengthens your argument when even that website states the average yearly rainfall is 30.38" and if you were to look at the NOAA website I posted and look at the last 20 complete years they have available you'd see even if you take out the 3 highest flood years and the 3 lowest drought years you'd still come out with 31.2 inches of rainfall.

Also looking at those 20yrs you only have 5 years where total rainfall is less than 20" but have 12 years where rainfall is at least 30"

>Has your governor called out the Nasty Girls yet? They're going to have to be ready to move in instantly

NG never moves instantly. TXSG are the ones that haul ass to location. The last time Texas dealt with a hurricane, TXSG went from initial activation to putting a brigade sized element in the Rio Grande Valley in about twelve hours. They dealt with the setting up and manning of shelters after Red Cross refused to put their people in the path of a category III. NG showed up three or four days later to provide heavy equipment, logistics, and relief. Not a bad system really.
