How does /k/ feel about the tanto blade shape? Meme? Effective? Hows sharpening it? Should i buy a folder, Out the Front, or a fixed tanto?
An OTF tanto
Fixed tanto

>How does /k/ feel about the tanto blade shape?
/k/ will shit all over it because no belly and then turn around and dickride the wharncliffe. IMO it depends on the tanto itself, some I like and some I don't and a lot more than the side view profile of the knife goes into those choices.
What exactly are you looking to do with the knife that you're planning to purchase? Also post your budget and if applicable your state.

Just bought an otf tanto and a titanium balisong tanto. considering buying a fixed tanto, i just wanna know if they dull easy and or actually hard to sharpen.
They might die from either laughter or cringing, go for it.
>>34950210
These are better than k-bar.
>>34950465
>i just wanna know if they dull easy and or actually hard to sharpen
Again that depends on the knife in question.
>>34950505
Because?
>>34950210
i kinda like the looks of the KM2000

I don't see anything wrong with a tanto blade. They are easy to sharpen. I never carry out the front blades because it unnerves me to have it in my pocket and have it spring out and stab me. I go for folders because they are easier to carry. fix blade are better of course as long as it is full tang.

Pretty sure it's a joke. Dummy. That's "the thing" to do on Tinder profiles.

There's different types of tantos.
The one in OP is more commonly known as an American Tanto point.
American Tantos have very sturdy tips. The downside is that they're actually worse at piercing. The secondary edge has some limited utility value but otherwise doesn't really offer you anything that a different knife couldn't do.
>>34951193
Really? Than what blade do you suggest for stabbing?
I'd say that the American tanto point is easier to sharpen. Just two straight edges, no curve. Some like the asthetics.
>>34952247
Frankly it doesn't matter, you can stab someone well enough with a flathead screwdriver. Some knives designed with durability as a priority are pretty much just that.

>American Tantos have very sturdy tips.
If they do it's because they use thick steel and a wide angle at the very tip. Which you can do with many tip styles, and you don't have to do with the reta... american tanto tip.
The angular nature that defines the american tanto tip does nothing to make the tip stronger in itself, all it does is make for a small secondary point where the tip transitions to the main edge that can break on you.
I have a link tanto (inexpensive but good quality folding knife) and I like it a lot. Very easy to sharpen and does everything you'd want a knife to do. I honestly don't understand why people shit on them.
I just got one over a conventional knife (which I have many of) because they are much easier to sharpen for someone who sucks shit at sharpening
>>34950465
Easier to sharpen for a beginner since there is no belly meaning no need to angle the knife as you pull over the stone. It is more annoying to sharpen since you are pretty much sharpening two different edges.

Knifefags are a special kind of autism. They meme about tacticool cold steel knives being shit and then brag about their 10 ounce EDC knife with a fucking cleaver shaped blade.
I own a Cold Steel Recon 1 tanto. Cool knife, sharp, and durable, but not really practical for normal tasks like slicing meat, chopping vegetables, opening packages, etc. It'll do the job for those, but something with a proper belly would be much more convenient.

Hmm, interesting. Im basically getting a out the front tanto and it was gonna be my go to boxcutter and chest stabber if that situation happened
>>34954170
i found the tanto i have to be great at opening things. Use it all the time in a warehouse. the secondary tip is great for making nice shallow cuts to open without cutting whats underneath.
That tanto is one of my most used knives.
A thinner tip is better at stabbing, a tanto tip would be more durable for stabbing since its a thicker tip.
Its an excellent tool knife that has proven far more useful than i would have thought
>>34952247
I'd recommend something that has something to prevent your hand from slipping onto the blade if you stab into something hard. So not something like this. >>34951193
t.not knifefag just someone w/ common sense
>>34952247
Spear point
>>34950210
tanto are not ideal shape, but they are fun
>>34954731
Pretty
>>34955469
thanks, they are, and theyre pretty useful. havnt used the gold one too much, the tanto pretty much dominates the pocket
>>34950546
Then you might like to take a look at the KM 4000, anon.
Tantos are fine. Performance wise you probably won't notice a difference between a tanto and a more traditional style of blade in day to day use do if you like the aesthetics of them I say go for it.
I'd recommend taking a look at the Cold Steel Code 4 in tanto tip.
Buy a Wakizashi

Oh what a world we live in. If OP encounters armor he'll probably want a guard of some kind but otherwise hand slippage isn't as big a deal as most people seem to think it is. Cultures all over the world have utilized guardless knives for fighting, usually for the sake of concealability.
