AFAIK there was free healthcare for everyone in the country (including black people). The capability to vote was reserved to educated folks, which was predominantly white people. Black people were worse off than whites in Rhodesia, yet still a lot better than blacks in other African countries - even today.

Ian Smith argued against a majority vote, he wanted "the best government", meaning qualified people, which happened to be mostly white. He again and again denied being a "racialist" and I couldn't find any racial hatred or discrimination on his part so far.

Personally I don't think Rhodesia was ideal or should be glorified. One shouldn't ignore the qualities it did posses however and especially the potential. Plus, you'll be hard pressed to find ANY country on the planet that hasn't had severe racism in its past, irrelevant of skin color.
