Guys, why does the PL-01 look so futuristic?

Because tanks operate, at most, like 4km away from a target, and that's only if the target is in a wide open place with vantage points able to see it. The main advantage of covering up stuff is that it reduces your thermal image, which is much more important in ground combat.

i think the pl-01 concept is pretty sound, modern aps systems make heavy armor kind of obsolete. a tank armor has to handle autocannon fire from ifvs and that's is anything bigger will be intercepted by the aps. it's the future. this allows you to make tanks that are lighter more maneuverable faster bite harder and maybe have more stealth i'm not sure i'm sold on that one.

but the modern light tank will be a fearsome thing to all the old crap lying around.

you can't make an autocannon bigger by nature/recoil otherwise battleships would have 150mm autocannons, you can't put a a gun over 120mm on a vehicle too light too deal with the recoil. The active protection system is anti missile not anti autocannon round so thinning the armor wouldn't help it even if it had APS. A bigger engine is always useful but it makes the vehicle more vulnerable to rounds/molotovs.
A bigger gun decreases the amount of ammo you can carry so you can't have both a bigger gun and more ammo.

sure you can btw today 20 and 30mm autocannons are the usual thing and already armies are looking at 40mm autocannons and 56mm ones as a possible option to deal with light armor that also got increasingly more resistant to small calibers.

and the success of the recoilless 30mm autocannon used on light vehicles like the wiesel also showcases the obvious ease you can scale autocannons up and not have to worry about recoil being an actual thing.

yeah except they pretty much did already and then there is the atgm stuff to consider. it's a technical challenge maybe or it was 20 years ago but sure you can easily put 155mm guns on a light tank altho i have to say 120mm counts as a big gun for a light tank today and mostly adequate for the purposes they have to fulfill.

Completely replacing a MBT with a light tank is a bad idea. The US thought about supplementing the Abrams with a light tank but it somehow fell though the cracks.

Except it doesn't. I've served on both Abrams and Leo2's.

The Leo's loaders door is small and only has access to 8 rounds at a time.

You can't cross from one side of the turret to the other.

Why does the driver have the radios? He has much better things to worry about.

Not saying the Abrams doesn't have it's faults but I prefer it to the Leo.

that was before viable aps the era alone can't save a light tank from getting scrapped by some ancient thing lurking around since ww2 but aps development makes everything about firepower in single shots moot. aps raises the bar to whoever can overwhelm the system first wins. and that means data linked guns firing in concert or in bursts to the same target at the minimum or sustained fire that exhausts the aps.
