I know that the role of the infantry gun was to support the infantry when attacking and in the German army they were organized into a infantry gun company. Is there any company manual or such available in English or even in German? Despite my efforts, I have not found one. Was the IG company considered irrelevant by the American intelligence?
How the guns were actually used? In my experience there is always some sort doctrinal way to deploy units in defence or in attack. Were the guns always in a company formation or were they deployed separately to different infantry units? Who gave them targets to shoot, the company commander, battalion commander or just any infantry platoon officer?

The mission of the Infantry is to close with, locate, and destroy the enemy by fire and maneuver.
Not a ww2 vet but an OIF vet. I assume it was used like we use the SAW. It provided covering fire for the other infantry to advance to better firing positions.

Yeah, that is my general impression and that's about the level at which most sources stop. What I'm hoping for is more in-depth look at how the guns were deployed, what was the chain of command and so on.
It seems that H.Dv. 89/4 and others are not digitalized :(
