It's a G36C or K model. One of the newer ones. Extra magazine is attached side by side with one in the magazine well.
He has a grip pod, a light and a really expensive-looking optical sight. I think I can make out a Schmidt & Bender logo on the back of it which means it's a $10,000 optic on a $2,000 rifle. He'd be much better served with a more compact 4X optic or even a red-dot, since the barrel is too short to engage much beyond 200m with any degree of reliable precision.

His job isn't hitting guy on center of mass at 200m, quite possibly it involves avoiding hitting a hostage at that range. Most of carbines and SMG's police inventory are equipped with your typical red dot or ACOG. If stuff happens at longer ranges there are TRG-41's and 42's.
