.22 is cheap so easy for beginners to get into guns without dropping a shit load of money. It's also the best round to start learning with.

You can also get an AR for ~$350. You can get one for around $300 if you wait for PSA to have a sale then "build" it yourself.

You can use something like ammoseek or gunbot to find cheap ammo.
