Anyone use a 1/7 twist barrel on an AR-15? What kind of ammo do you like?
>>
>>34893704
55 grain xm193 people who say those rounds there are inaccurate are fucking crazy
>>
>>34893704
At the ranges most shoot, the twist rate will not matter.

Unless you regularly shoot past 250/300 meters, the barrel twist is a non-issue.
>>
>>34893861
Then why is twist rate such a meme? People always wringing their hands about 1/9 or 1/7
>>
>>34893704
77gr match ammo.

Case of the 'tisms daddy

I have one in 1:7. I also have one thats 1:9.

I mostly shoot cheap russian steelcase through both. Works fine.
>>
>>34893921
>he doesn't shoot past 300 meters

Pleb.
>>
>>34894280
I heard that 55gr is the lightest you should go for 1/7 twist barrel though
>>
>>34893921
retards. 1/12 is superior because when the us army did it in vientnam when they shot the vientnamese they would exxplode (blow off an arm, etc)
>>
>>34893704
I have a 1:7. It eats everything and groups just fine.

Handload or PPU 75gr match are my personal favorites.
>>

I personally have measured the difference between 62 and 55 gr out of a 1:7 16 in barrel. The 62 in is at least 1 moa better grouping as the 55gr. While that doesn't matter for 'combat accuracy', it does make a difference if you're shooting paper for fun.

>>34893704
I like the 62 gr over 55 gr, you will see improved accuracy for 16 in barrels. From what I understand if you use full length systems the 55 gr is better. Shoot the ammo your gun was designed for. 1:7 twist rate on a m4gery was designed for a 14.5 inch barrel in mind. Your 16 in barrel is more similar in profile to 14.5 than 21 inches.

69gr thru 80gr sierra's will do great.

16 inch 1/8 midlength.

The trifecta of compromises.
>>
Pretty much just XM193 because it's cheap and it's fucking everywhere. PMC X-Tac is what i zeroed the rifle on and seems to shoot the best out of the various brands I've tried. Most ranges in my area don't let me shoot green tips so I can't really use 62 grain.

Kind of want a fullsized AR now though

Yeah as others have said, it's mainly past the 200-300 yard mark where the twist rate will really matter. With lighter bullets you had the issue that cheaper constructed bullets would overspin and "shear" themselves to pieces leaving the barrel. Lighter rounds generally don't do well past 250-300 yards as they become too affected by the wind and will veer off course.

>>34894630
>>34896169
This. 1/7 and 1/8 generally will give you great greater performance at longer range with the heavier 69/77/80gr loads, though the 80gr rounds will be tricky to load in AR mags without compressing the charge a bit.

I've fallen in love with Sierra's 77gr Tipped Match Kings.
