>Commentary: China never backs down in defending sovereignty

China's Foreign Ministry on Wednesday once again asked India to withdraw all its troops and equipment from Chinese territory, as the border standoff in the Dong Lang (Doklam) area approaches its second month.

On June 18, over 270 armed Indian troops with two bulldozers crossed the boundary in the Sikkim Sector and advanced more than 100 meters into China.

As of end of July, there were still over 40 Indian troops and one bulldozer in Chinese territory.

China is building roads on its own territory, did not cross the boundary and notified India in advance. India did not raise any objection at that time, or any other, until its troops suddenly invaded Dong Lang. "India intentionally started this standoff to test China," said Li Qingyan of the China Institute of International Studies. China's bottom line is the border line, as shown in the 1962 incident with India. As a Chinese saying goes, "a good neighbor is better than a distant brother." China of course has no desire to enter into a war with its neighbor. China and India are two developing giants with a wide range of common interests. A sensible bilateral relationship will definitely benefit over two billion people.

The Chinese people will never back down in defending sovereignty and no country should underestimate China's resolve.

imagine this, war breaks out, huge armies fighting along the boarder neither side gaining much ground, the whole time the US sets up a secret anti-icbm system in neighboring pakistan and myanmar, who go along because they dont want to see nukes flying back and forth from their porch. fist side that launches nukes gets all of their missiles destroyed, the side that launches 2nd gets all of their missles destroyed as well except for the one heading strait for the 1st countries capital. basically first side to shoot a nuke gets their capital nuked. pretty much a win win situation for the rest of the world.

>Chinese troops patrol control line on China-India border: FM spokesperson

http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/2017-08/16/c_136531379.htm

Chinese border troops have always patrolled the Chinese side of the line of control on the China-India border, said a Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wednesday in response to a recent altercation between the two troops.

According to media reports, Chinese and Indian soldiers yelled and threw stones at each other in Ladakh, a disputed area between China, Pakistan and India in southeastern Kashmir on Tuesday.

Speaking at a daily press briefing, spokesperson Hua Chunying said she was not aware of the latest reports, but added that "Chinese border troops are always committed to maintaining peace on the China-India border and always patrol along the Chinese line of control."

"We urge the Indian side to abide by the line of control agreed upon in 1959 as well as relevant regulations and conventions between the two sides, and to earnestly safeguard peace and stability in the border area," Hua said.

She also urged India to immediately and unconditionally withdraw all troops and equipment that have encroached into Chinese territory in the Dong Lang (Doklam) area.

"This is the foundation and prerequisite to the solution of the incident," Hua said.

On June 18, more than 270 Indian border troops, carrying weapons and driving two bulldozers, crossed the boundary in the Sikkim Sector and advanced more than 100 meters into Chinese territory to obstruct road construction by the Chinese side, causing tension in the area.

The trespassing Indian troops numbered as many as 400 people at one point.

As of the end of July, there were still more than 40 Indian border troops and one bulldozer illegally remaining in the Chinese territory.

Everyone is thinking that if another border war were to kick off it'll start next month.

https://thewire.in/159407/doklam-india-china-bhutan/

A very good article and extensive research done into the background of the issue, geographically-speaking.

TL;DR

The current dispute is about the location of the tri-junction.

>The 1890 Sino-British Treaty marks the boundary as starting from Mount Gipmochi (we'll talk about this later) and following the bifurcation of the watershed to the boundary of Nepal.
>However, old geological surveys of the location of Mount Gipmochi have been inaccurate.
>Modern maps put Mount Gipmochi at 5 km east of its original presumed location.
>Hence, the 1890 British Treaty marks the beginning of the tri-junction boundary at modern-day Batang La (as per Indian/Bhutanese claims) rather than Mount Gipmochi.
>In constructing roads into what is essentially Bhutanese territory, the Chinese have violated their 1998 agreement to maintain the status quo.

It looks like the 62nd Combined-Arms Brigade (合成第62旅), 76th GA of the Western Theatre Command was getting a huge upgrade in the last couple of years: They basically get the 112th Division Treatment, which is the resident Praetorian Guard of former Beijing MR (now Central TC) so to speak.

The 62nd Brigade has been confirmed to operate AFT-10 NLOS heavy ATGMs in their artillery battalion.

They would be quite an asset for mountain warfare to take out indian bunkers and tanks.

Generally, I doubt that the carriers will be used if the war stays along the borders.

To remember, the Western TC deals with Tibet, India, Central Asia.

Most units, the 62nd included, are far removed from the Indian border, though. But due to China's extensive infrastructure, they would quickly arrive in a crisis.

Amateur videos from Chinese internet indicate that the past weeks already saw considerable troop movements to Tibet from other regions of China. So, this brigade among others may already be deployed near the border.

In fact, this is what the Indians basically expect as well. They estimate that divisional sized formations of rapid reaction units may be reinforcing the theatre, which could off-set the numerical disadvantage of the PLA vis a vis the Indian Army.

Hypothetically speaking i'd expect Spike operators supporting Indian Armor to be able to repel any Chinese mechanized offensive through that terrain, though the competence of Indian soldiers is suspect. Though we don't know how Chinese troops will perform either.

Indian Spike ATGMs would really be a headache for the PLA ground force. But IIRC they have yet to arrive.

So right now their main ATGMs are MILANs and Konkurs. Which are okay I guess, but they're not top-attack fire-and-forget missiles.
>>
>>34895369
Generally, I think that this would be a war fought almost exclusively by airforce/helicopters, light infantry (and their associated manpacked ATGMs) and long range artillery.

China knows that its tank-force will be vulnerable along the narrow roads, and India, which indeed has some high ground there, also knows that its tanks will be out on the open and vulnerable to air strikes.

China urges Japanese ambassador to India to be discreet on Doklam standoff

http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/2017-08/18/c_136537309.htm

>BEIJING, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said Friday that the Japanese ambassador to India should not wag his tongue too freely on the standoff between China and India in the Dong Lang (Doklam) area.

>Spokeswoman Hua Chunying told a routine press briefing that there is no territorial dispute in that area and that the nature of the incident is that Indian troops illegally crossed the already delimited Sikkim section of the China-India boundary into Chinese territory.

>Japanese Ambassador to India Kenji Hiramatsu said in an interview with Indian media that Doklam is disputed territory between China and Bhutan and no country should use force to change its status.

>It is better not to make irresponsible remarks before making clear the facts, Hua said, stressing that it is India, not China, that is trying to create trouble and change the status quo.

>She reiterated that the premise and basis for meaningful dialogue between China and India is that India immediately and unconditionally withdraws all troops and equipment that have encroached into Chinese territory.
