It depends on how well your shot placement is an how many accurate follow up shots you can fire off. If you selected the correct perks as you levelled up throughout your life and have enough AP even a .22 can incapacitate quickly before you've expended all your AP in VATS.

Doom taught me that a double barrel shotgun rigged to shoot both barrels with one trigger pull is perfect for most applications and that a missile launcher is the minimum for a good sidearm.

fallout 10mm is like IRL 9mm. the bare minimum.

10mm isn't a meme in the since that it has significantly more energy available for reliable deep penetration/expansion on medium sized game.

There's a reason that .357mag and 10mm are more or less the lowest energy cartridges that one can ethically take thin skinned medium game with under typical field conditions. 9mm, .40, and .45 are all technically capable of doing the job but not nearly so reliably.

Question's which one's better when the medium sized game is popping off rounds at you with a jennings
