Not suitable for self defense
>.380 ACP through .45 ACP (including 9mm, .357 Sig, and .40 S&W)
Suitable for self defense against humans
>10mm and up
Suitable for self defense against large four legged animals but overkill for self defense against humans

IIRC most gun deaths in this country come from .22 and .25 caliber, because those are the most common calibers for the kind of cheapshit Saturday Night Specials that are used in most crimes.
