No you're not. Any field biologist worth his salt understands the behavioral characteristics of venomous snakes and alligators and knows not to shoot random reptiles for no fucking reason. If you find yourself in a situation where you can shoot a snake, then there is no reason to shoot the snake. Just walk around it or pick up a fucking stick and chuck it to the side. Venemous snakes are ambush predators. They either bite you because you didn't see them and you die alone in the woods or you see them and you can just leave them alone.

Alligators have a kill zone at the back of their skull about the the size of a quarter. If can you manage to get a pistol shotgun point blank on their spine, so that you have enough muzzle energy to penetrate scutes, hide, and bone and a tight enough spread to completely severe the spine, then you shouldn't be shoot that gator. If you fuck that shot up, unless you're in a boat, you're done. Gators are ambush predators too. If a gator wants to kill you, a gator will grab you without you ever seeing it. A gator big enough to hunt a grown man is not going to ever present itself for a close range kill shot. If the gator is too small to kill a human, then why the fuck are you shooting it. Just fucking throw shit at it until it moves off the trail like a normal person.

You seriously don't need a pocket shotty for this. You'd be much better off buying a $20 collapsible snake hook and using that to move snakes out of your way if needed. If you feel you have a seriously valid need to carry a gun for gators, get a used $120 hi-point C9 from a pawn shop and load it with quality FMJ +P.

I have a Leinad Model D, the thing is pure garbage but it's significant to me. I wouldn't recommend it because it's fucking impossible to rapidly deploy and weighs as much as a full size automatic pistol. As others have suggested, there are a few derringers out there that suit the job or you can even load a $120 Hi Point with 9mm shot shells if you want, but avoid the Leinad guns.

A break-action shotgun is your best bet if you're set on a shotgun, and have little disposable income.
