What exactly does the Eagle N Proof on a PPK indicate? I thought it was a Nazi thing but I recently saw a listing of a .22lr PPK made in the 70s with it, supposedly.

The eagle signifies the new state thats isnt ruled by the German king (Kaiser)
I think it was for identification at first since pistols for the army would get a stamp from the army, a civilian copy would get that eagle.
I guess they thought it was a nice bit of history and kept it in.
