Continuing from last thread regarding rucks/packs, what do YOU guys use that fit the 3 day pack category? Maybe Im thinking too into this, but in total what I'd be carrying is this.

3 Skivvy rolls
3 days worth of stripped MRE's
Ample hydration to be spread over three days
Vitamin pills
Tarp
Bivy/Sleeping bag
Sleeping mat
IFAK and FAK
OTC meds
Fire starter
Signalling mirror
container of tinder
Cold weather gear
Those little expanding cylinder towels
Navigational equipment
Knife
Pocket chain saw
>>

buy those, follow instructions.

as for paint the rifle and stock are using liquitex spray paint, cant remember the exact colours but basically just pull up a DPM image and compare the paint color on the can to the image. the rail has the same stencil but I used just the krylon camo colors.

There are acronyms for a reason. There are over 150 threads at any given time in /k/. Do you know how many of them have the word gear in the OP?

The acronyms are to help when searching the catalog. You're wrong. Putting /gq/ somewhere in there is important.

Looking at getting a new belt setup. Also going to get a hydration carrier and order IFAK supplies.

Does anyone have anything to say about a belt setup that uses an inner/outer belt system that connects with velcro, so you can pull your gear on and off?

I get that the velcro will wear out eventually and need replaced. Is there anything else to consider?

I assume I shouldn't put too much weight on it, but it looks like it can more than handle what I will put on it. Was planning on putting a handgun, 2 rifle mags, 2 pistol mags, an IFAK, and a Leatherman on it.

On a hard day I personally consume about 5 liters. I'm talking a 15 mile day with decently strict water rationing. That is 11lbs of water. Even more if you're pushing a pace in the heat. I'm about 6' and 200 lbs so adjust accordingly. Multi day backpackers use purifying tablets, filters, or boiling and straining. Chose one or a combination of the three. I personally go tabs and boiling since you're bringing fire starting stuff anyway and mess stuff isn't that heavy.

Mystery Ranch is solid and the Propper Arcteryx ILBE isn't bad either if you're on more of a budget.

Anywhere it rains or gets seriously cold 1 spare pair of socks is not gonna cut it.
>>
>>34856107
Not that dude but the dude he's responding to.
Socks are a separate matter. Extra skivvy rolls are contingency plan, incase I get soaked before I can get my poncho liner on etc. Thick wool socks would be part of my cold weather gear.
>>
>>34855194
>>34855344
Ditch the cold weather gear unless you actually are in the cold. You won't change your thong every day, so one extra and a bunch of pairs of socks. I suggest mixing up your food some. You don't want to live off of MREs alone. I like to bring pouches of tuna or other protein heavy things along. You already got told about your water situation. I bring iodine and a straw with me for that. I suggest a poncho. It is your pack's rain cover, your hooch, a hammock, a rain funnel, and whatever else you figure out. I might forgo the pocket chain saw, or a least try it out before you trust it for anything. I have had dreadful luck with the things, and now just use a knife for little things and break the big stuff up with some vigorous stomping. A sharp e-tool works in a pinch as an ax, so long as you are just going after softer wood like white birch.
Three days is a lot if you plan to live strictly out of a pack. I suggest a small ruck for that if you plan to be moving a lot. Rigid frames make a massive difference. I have a hellcat Alice that I like. If you want to pretend that it is 2005, you might want to look into that. TT used to make a very good Alice pack, but I haven't seen one in the field in a while.

Personally 30L for three days is pretty thin. I wouldn't do that on just a civilian backpacking trip. I've a friend who has done the PCT several times and the Appalachian. Even hardcore backpackers don't really do less than 40 liters for multi days between resupply.

I mean if you're skipping the tent and the sleeping bag and pad I guess.

On a 3 day patrol you're carrying combat sustainment too. IDK how much backpacking experience you have but the Khard 60 is a light pack so even if you only pack it to 45 liters it won't be that heavy.
>>
>>34856176
If you're talking about the MALICE pack (and now apparently they make a MALICE series that looks nothing like the original), they still make it but I've been hesitant to buy it.
I was open to rucksacks too but don't know what to look for in regards to brand, quality, etc.
I'm in Northwestern Montana so it gets pretty fucking cold up here anytime from late fall to late spring. Summer is only about 1 month in terms of actual temps.

>>34856187
I have almost none. All backpack experience has been at school or some tiny range hydration pack with a cleaning kit and random food.
>>
>>34856088
I have a 45 liter pack and I can just barely pack enough for 3 days of comfortable living including sleep gear and shelter. If I need to carry any extra/specialty items I need to start strapping stuff to the side of the pack. This is partly because I dont have the most compact / expensive gear in my pack but
>>34856187
is right. I would still step it up to at least 45 or so liters.

Only if you have a compact (volume wise) shelter and don't bring anything unnecessary. 30L is stretching a multiday trip. Remember that you must pack for your environment and expected route, so plan in advance on what you're expecting to see and go around that. Don't pack everything you think you might possibly need.

If you're adamant on having a 30L, you should consider exterior pockets for lighter weight gear. There's people that have done with 25L packs for a weekend trip, so it's not totally impossible, you just have to think about what you absolutely need and can work around with.

If you don't already have a bunch of highly compressible light weight backpacking gear you're going to need at least 45L if not more if you're serious about being kitted for a 3 day 45 mile LRRP sort of thing. You said price wasn't too much of an issue. A high quality Arcteryx like the Khard in 60L will be solid. Want to make that a 5 or 7 day without resupply? Bump up to the 80 or their bigger packs.

Remember a good quality pack will have minimal dry weight. Sub 5lbs is industry standard (backpacking not MIL) for a big pack and even less for the higher quality stuff. This means you can always underpack and not make use of all the volume and you're not really hurting yourself by carrying more pack than you need to.

>2017
If you're spending $500 on an arcteryx pack you can afford a decent $$60-$100 air sleeping pad. They are lighter, more comfortable, more insulating, and take up WAY less volume. Anyone still using a pad or a classic thermarest is way fucking behind on the times. And don't talk to me about punctures, they come with patches kits and are quiet durable. I have easily 30 nights on my poorfag Klymit air pad if not more, and it has held up fine.

I dont have a bivvy, bag, or sleeping mat. Everything else on my list is as compact as can be
I have a tarp but I wouldnt consider it remotely qualified for backpack/rucksacking as its huge even when folded.
Will probably pickup a new smaller one to use as a roof when setting up shop.
I'd be buying these items afterwards based on quality and size.
I'm taking a good long look at the Tactical tailor Malice packs now that I found some reviews of them from guys who used em in conjunction with armor.
Its 4550 CU/74L.
So then continuing/updating list from here:

Poncho liner
Spare firestarter
Iodine tablets
Mess kit
Some survival stove - probably an esbit
blocks for esbit
lighter in case esbit is a bitch
Mix in regular food with MRE's now that I have the real estate

Malice pack is huge, Im probably gonna compress my back with all the shit I'll carry, including pc, funs, fun belt, and kevlar.

Yeah, they have the MALICE and then they have the new PNW Malice packs which look nothing like Alice packs but the biggest has 5100 inches and uses the same frame. It cost 730 though which is the killer. The one thing I've heard people complain about is that you put more in it since its huge so that its not flopping around. The straps back in 2010 we're too slippery and you'd have to stop and cinch them. That was 7 years ago.

Dear Queers,

I would love to buy them Russian PCs, Cubano Cortes, from R-Karbid. They are recommended in the sticky, reviews seem very favorable and they are cheap as fuck.

The question is, where actually buy those? There is official R-Karbid site, but it seem a bit shady and I don't wanna sponsor some russian drinking party and receive bag of potatoes instead of a plate carrier.

I know some of you own those, so where did you bought them?

Thanks. Posting at least my shooter to be of some value.
>>
>>34856588

For that money you should be looking for hunting or hiking packs that are built for comfort and not by lowest bidder. Exo Mountain, Kifaru, Hill People Gear, Mystery Ranch, the list goes on for smaller pack makes. I know TT makes good stuff, but you should try on the aforementioned packs first before committing and see which you like best.

>>34856601

Why the ALICE specifically? It's going to ride worse than modern designs unless you get a modern harness and suspension, but you'd be getting into new pack territory.

Fug can't say i did a lot of outdoor activities, just a couple range trips. But still i don't see any reason for the gear not to be durable - stitching is top notch, velcro is great too (he uses italian made on the dark olive models).

Crye plate carriers look so comfy. Too bad they dont come in multicam tropic
>>
>>34861060
It really is strange and unfortunate that Crye doesn't offer meaningful support for their own colorways.
>>
>>34861199
Mainly due to the overhead costs and lack of actual adoption. Now that 7th group among others have been using tropic in Africa and 5th group was just at CAPEX this year in Arid, we might see more support. The original idea was that multicam LBE and hard goods was universal, and one would change their base combat layer based on environments. Call crye, make your voice heard.

I personally would use them when tactically larping in vehicles and dismounting because your sides are more vulnerable when in a vehicle. Otherwise I see it as unnecessary weight.

>>34865368
I feel like all these IFAKs with tourniquets are instilling the belief of resorting to tourniquets immediately. In most cases, a pressure bandage and elevation would suffice. Granted, my medical training only consists of a Red Cross first aid course. I was taught that tourniquet pretty much = amputation and to use only as a last resort, e.g. arm is spaghetti.
I do like the SWAT-T for its ability to be a pressure bandage for hard to bandage areas, as well as a sling for arm fractures.

I'm thinking of getting this bag for hiking as well as commuting to school on my bike (mostly cycling commuting). Does anyone have any experience with this bag (the Legion-Elite Day Pack) or would you recommend a different one?
This bag appears to checks off a lot of my requirements.

The size is good since I will only be carrying my tablet and one or two textbooks and a change of clothes. I also like the side and internal compression straps to keep everything nice and secure during my ride.

It has a hydration bladder pouch for drinking while riding to school which is a must for me due to living in a desert.

The helmet carrier and sunglasses pouch will be used to for holding said items during class

I don't mind paying a little bit of money for a nice bag that has all of these features that I would use but I wouldn't mind saving some money if there was a less expensive alternative. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
