How good are Coast Guard Operators (Maritime Security Response Team/Maritime Safety and Security Team/Tactical Law Enforcement/Law Enforcement Detachment/Port Security units etc) anyway?
Can they hang with their counterparts in SOCOM? Yes or naw.

I'm not sure which group it was but I got to do a little bit of training with the Coastie operators. From the little I saw they are more like the ultimate SWAT than operators. They might have covert type capabilities but I didn't have a chance to see them.
For what they're trained to do I think they are every bit as good as any other SOCOM type unit. They're highly specialized and it really showed.

no a single USMC marine is worth 3 coustcucks, we are Americas deadyiest weapon and we would take the fight to the enmany and kick there bitchpussy asses because we are a brotherhood that can overcome anything that stands in our way
only the marines are equal to socom
>>34851580
I would imagine they're something like GSG9 or HRT, like a really good SWAT team. I don't think it's a fair comparison to set them against a SOCOM unit, considering how different the missions are.
>>34852030
I'm pretty sure this is bait, but it does sound like something a common marine would say out loud.
>>34851580
CG DSF are like global swat team, Even their offensive actions are for defensive purposes, they dont do direct combat action like SOCOM, they have a different mission directive. I guess their job is more like DELTA in that it deals with hostage rescue, but they don't do operations like the Osama raid. They also do training missions around the world teaching LE to other navies and CG.
also unlike SOCOM, they have directives for counter narcotics (TACLET) and CBRNE incident security

>Army thinks it's a good idea to adopt a shitty MARPAT clone that blends in with couches and gravel, backed with a lot of controversy, a couple of years later they ditch UCP for a literal Multishart clone instead of buying what Crye has been offering for the last 15 years
>Marines chose a God tier pattern with variations that actually works in their respective environments, having been using it for the last 13 years, and has only been in development for 18 months

Can you talk a little more about it? What made them look so competent at what they did exactly? A supreme mastery of tactics and so forth?
>>34852084
What makes the Coastie mission different exactly? They are like the ultimate VBSS sort of thing right? What SEALs were originally supposed to do from how i understand it
>>34852125
How often do units like MSRT get kinetic? Or are they basically only a force in being?
>>34852821
>>34852837
>>34852707
Actual kinetic action is classified, (just like SOCOM)
pic related was a DC3 who was working as part of the LEDETS who deployed with the navy doing LE and oil platform defense, he was KIA in an explosion when his small boat went to investigate a suspicious dhow which exploded
Most of DSF is focused on counter narcotics and LE, but they are trained to respond to a variety of terrorist attacks on US coastal waterways
one of the unique uses of the USCG is that they can use military tech and methods for LE, while DoD is not allowed to conduct operations like thy would in a combat zone (its a complex relationship) basically, why you don't see seals arresting people
Here are some videos posted on the DOD public affairs video database

This made me laugh my ass off, good job anon.

I'd imagine fairly often. They're the guys who take down drug smuggling boats and shit
>>34852699
USCG has more authority to do search and seizure than almost any other organization with the exception of probably customs, 14 USC 89 gives them authority to do all kinds of LE actions that piss people off. It was part of their founding principles, that the USA needed an entity that was not military, and could enforce federal laws, but one of their original targets was bootleggers and smugglers.

>>34852922
when conducting classified LE, they can get pretty kinetic- door kicking and such (as they are trained to do), but there are a number of other supporting commands ranging from HITRON (helicopter snipers) all the way to MSST (security forces) who all fall under the DSF umbrella who get kinetic in certain situations

How does one get into the MSRT?
I live next to a Coast Guard facility that does a lot of helicopter rescue and the one story that I like was that they got tired of paying for storage of all the big guns that could be mounted on the helicopters for combat operations so they just decided to mount them on the helis and maintain them there. So now if you get rescued by the coast guard in my area they have 50. cal machine guns and 20mm cannons on the choppers that pull you out of the ocean.

be in for 6 years, or 4 with a deployment to Bahrain to get a slot in the training, then you do it with another commitment of 5 years or so I think.
