So, apparently gastroesophageal reflux disorder (GERD) disqualifies me from enlisting. Is it possible to get a waiver if literally any over-the-counter antacid fixes it if it happens? I have a prescription antacid that I take every night and I haven't had any issues with GERD in years.

I was looking at the Air Force or Navy, preferring Navy.

On topic of scoliosis, mine causes a bit of numb/tingle sensation below my right scapula, mostly when sitting for long periods of time. Any chance that could develop into something worse in military contexts? Like am I gonna suddenly be paralyzed on a hump? It sucks that I can't go around being the degenerate I am on the inside or I'll lose my job and any chance of having any other government job in any NATO country ever again, but I've liked my time in the RCN Reserve (yeah yeah i know) so far.

If I had any other job, I'd probably be a lot more free and loose with what I say and do and who I consort with.

As for actual real regrets, I guess I should schmooze more. I'm apparently likeable in person, but I have a hard time keeping up relationships with people I don't see regularly and naturally (like coworkers or schoolmates or people on the same game servers I like or w/e). Like, what am I gonna do, send love letters by DND internet to old yeomen I've had, and try to chat up engineers at PCTU about trying to incinerate trash on my apartment balcony?

>>34847393
Nigga you are stupid. Forget any legal stuff, they're just gonna kick you out and that's it. But do you really want a physical job like that when you're gonna be in pain all the time?

Even if you fit some autismal set of numbered requirements to not technically be unfit for service, if you're always at the back of the platoon wheezing in pain because your back is out again, they're going to tell you to go home and become a family man.

According to the Brookings Institute, you are 98% likely to end up in the middle class if you:
1. Finish high school
2. Get a job
3. Don't have children out of wedlock

https://www.brookings.edu/opinions/three-simple-rules-poor-teens-should-follow-to-join-the-middle-class/

For funsies, let's just tack on two more:
4. Don't get addicted to drugs or alcohol
5. Don't make extravagant purchases with money you don't have.
>>

Middle class is loser tier though. If you have to work instead of managing assets you have fucked up.

if its bad enough that most foods make you feel bad, then you dont want to join. you wont always have access to antacids.

granted, in the navy or air, you can just buy a lot of them and ration them out for yourself, and here in canada ships' doctors/baby docs straight up just fill a cubby hole with antacids (technically "anti-flatulants" but idk theyre literally just off-brand Tums) for free taking

BUT STILL

dont take a job where youre likely to hurt yourself unduly

that said if you really do just need tums after eating or your tummy will hurt slightly but not bad enough that you cant do your job, yeah, go for it. the recruiter will probably just ask if you are prescribed anything for it, then you say no, and they just dont check that box and you continue the process and just avoid spicy foods throughout your career like you do now normally anyway.

idk about the us, but i feel like theyre less stringent than canada in general. and in canada, the only medical issue that stops you from serving is anything that requires lifesaving medicine to treat. so, you can have back problems, but if you just cant lift more than some amount, whatever, become a clerk. but if you're allergic to peanuts, get out, because we can't guarantee access to epipens. your case is in the middle, and requires some introspection on your part and some medical evaluation on theirs

can you do your job after eating bad? will antacids fix it every time? if you dont get antacids, will you be unable to work?

srsly if its just "i feel like puking after eating spicy food" then just dont eat spicy food while on a ship or base. but if you get debilitating cramps and vomit after eating a carrot, maybe you should rethink your career choice

You dont have any medical records.
End of story.
We keep having to explain to you people. There is no giant medical database. They wont know shit unless you tell them.
>>
>There is no giant medical database.
this is actually true, "medical records" are basically only held by your GP and it's your responsibility to get them forwarded to any new doctor you get

and even then unless you have some very exotic disorders, the extent of your record will basically be "got prescribed [thing] for [condition]; his last checkup had [whatever numbers for whatever mundane statistics]" and even then unless it requires further tests or prescriptions to fix something it's unlikely to be recorded at all.

but still,
>>34848200
you strike me as a hugely paranoid faggot, which tells me you either got scared out of joining, or fucked up the joining process in some way. joining just about any force on earth is trivially easy, and every force on earth is desperate for new members. (even if funding's low, having new members means a reason to beg for more funding.)

even the secret squirrels don't look particularly hard into your history. about all they do is call the local police wherever you came from, check if there's any warrants out for you, check if you're an expat or refugee or whatever the fuck from somewhere suspect, and call it a day if it all comes up clean.

even the comms school I went to, for all its EMSEC policies, had normal windows for rooms that handled Secret and higher content, and its crypto trainers are in a normal building with normal key locks like you find on any other normal door.

Not even close. Im the OS2 from above. Already joined and left with no medical problems whatsoever.

Everything else you typed has absolutely nothing to do with what we're talking about. Im telling him to lie because every single meg thread theres a handful of people talking about how they need to get waivers for some small thing they shouldnt have mentioned and its taking forever or how they straight up got denied entry. There is no war right now so they can afford to be picky. Its far better just to lie and stream line the process. I dont care at all about what you have to say so you might as well not even reply.

So I was told last thread to lie on MEPS over a short prescription on Anti-Depressants and was reassured I wouldn't go to jail.

But if the job I want has a clearance of some level I feel that almost assures that they'd find out aboit everything that ever happened to me.

How likely are you to get waived if you gather all the documents saying you're fine and didn't need what you were given?

Anyone else have experience with waivers connected to mental health, I'd ask a recruiter but obviously that'd be a red flag to them.

If you need TS or SCI clearance then there is a high chance they'll dig that shit up. People with decade long careers have been canned for things as little as not mentioning going to see a therapist.
>>
>>34849117
t. neverserved

the secret squirrels only care about shit that can be used against you, and even then, it has to be something major like real debts or political issues or whatever

jacking it to cuck porn or having a bad back from a moving job is not just hard to find in records, but it's also trivial to your job or ability to be exploited. what are the russians gonna do, say "if you dont give us the codes, we'll make you lift this heavy box!"?

something like "not mentioning going to see a therapist" would get you canned because you're hiding a current and pressing issue that could affect your work from your employer.

if your back is bad, you shouldnt join in the first place and will likely be weeded out during basic for having genuine health issues, but if its not THAT bad and you can still work, it should be fine.
>>
>>34849117
>>34849149

My predicament that happened (being sad for a year so my family and Doctor thought I needed meds) does not effect my life, I'm in college on the verge of graduation and would like to serve.

So I know it will never impede me, but I don't want it to bite me in the ass.
>>
>>34849149
Someone correct me if im wrong, but with higher level clearances they're looking more closely at factors of trust, which is why they won't hesitate to can people for minor omissions like therapy.
>>
Looking at job requirements for the Army. Was curious as to why they hate the Peace Corps so much.
>>
>>34849192
>and would like to serve

>>34849216
i do not believe that anon for a second that he's ever seen any such thing first-hand, but they can can you, clearance or not, for not telling your chain of command that you're having some problem or another.

though usually, the first step will be "hey, anon, are you having problems? you CAN talk to us, you know."

but if you're doing something particularly heinous or are doing the same thing over and over, then that sort of thing can lead to administrative and eventually outright punitive action.

a good example is alcohol or drug abuse, or frequent stealing. the first time, it's like, okay, what's going on, this is a stressful job for people who come from stessful lives, we understand, let's get the nigga some help. second, third, fourth time, okay, enough is enough, this man is just a nigger, fuck him.

or if its really heinous, they might just skip straight to canning and charging you, like if they find CP on you, or you beat your wife up, or some shit like that.

Real jobs with the degree I have are also overrated.

It's a combination of me being the only fairly patriotic person I know in a liberal cess poll, and a "You only live once" thing.

Try and get a hard to get and cool sounding military job for the better part of a decade, have old degree, look good on paper if I decide to do other things.
>>
>>34849149
What branch and job did you have?
That you know so much about how the spooks pick folk?
>>
>>34849258
the military pays less than anything else you could do with a degree, and has vastly worse conditions and benefits. the literal only boon is that you can then say "I served", which will make a significant portion of everyone you will ever meet ever again (and probably a nonzero portion of those people you have met) hate you irrationally and forever just because of that.

it's not a bad job for unskilled workers, or people in times of need, or people who just dont have a lot going on otherwise

but you can almost definitely do better if you are about to get a degree and are in an okay place in life

in fact, the military will probably make you a WORSE person, as you're exposed to all manner of foul and uncouth people who'll make you also foul and uncouth, and your skills will perish as you are made to do things well beneath your skill and education level

canadian naval communicator

you have to be able to get LvIII or they forcibly remuster you. they also basically tell you to your face that they really dont care about your personal life as long as it cant be used against you or doesnt reflect badly on the forces. even at briefings basically along the lines of "please dont solicit sex from weird dommes cuz it looks bad and can be used against you", it's more "please be careful if you solicid weird dommes because the CBC and /pol/ might make fun of us about it" and not "please don't do it at all because the terrorists are always watching and will use it against you to wring you out for card keys and weapon manuals"

also at least lv II is trivially easy to get and almost everyone gets it anyway, basically just dont be a felon and you can get it. the trick is that a clearance doesnt grant you access to everything of that level, it's still all need-to-know no matter what

in general, they only revoke your clearance if you have repeated comsec violations or are convicted of a crime. they also dont look for things like being into weird stuff or having seen a therapist or whatever, it really is stuff like being literally a criminal or having major debts that they give a shit about. having some depression is meaningless to the spies, they can't get secrets out of a depressed person any easier than out of a happy person. same for threatening to expose your weird fetishes, like, if you're not ashamed of them, whatever, it makes the CF look bad if it does get out but it's probably not worth risking selling off fresh codebooks to keep secret that you're into MLP porn. even being an alcoholic is sorta a borderline case that'd require context.

but if you're addicted to something hard, that's an expensive and needy habit that could end in you selling secrets for a fix. likewise if you've diddled a child this decade, a copy of Secret Manual #42069 could be worth staying off the sex offender registry to you.

basically, a minor health issue that does not require lifesaving medication is DEFINITELY not going to interefere with getting a security clearance, and should not interfere with the joining process either

but you probably shouldnt join if your health is in question at all, because do you really wanna work in the military if your back is constantly going to ache?
>>
>>34849373
also to expand more: even if you do require lifesaving medication, you can still get a clearance. oh no, you'll die if you eat peanuts, or need an inhaler sometimes or you'll seize up. that doesnt exactly make you vulnerable to leaking sensitive info.

if you want, theres tons of nice old ladies who are civilian contractors working as sensitive material custodians. you are free to join their ranks. they get nice comfy chairs and air conditioned offices next to giant cool vaults

You are either a kid still in high school or college or someone who went straight into the military after high school.

90% of the time, even with a marketable degree, you get treated like complete shit with low wages and shit benefits out of college. It is common to be fired and replaced with a new graduate when you are up for a promotion or raise. It happened to me and it's happened to friends.

The wages and benefits you get in the military, even as enlisted, dwarf those in civilian life unless you become a wealthy entrepreneur. More things matter than your salary figure. Wait until you have a baby and the military 100% covers it while it would drain your savings in civilian life.

actually right now theres fucking tons of money. new boats, training budgets are huge, new aircraft, it's better than ever. the year i did basic i got a free ride back to town because someone from my unit was literally picking up a fursuit for recruiting

actually, the last big budget cut to the military was during CONSERVATIVE rule, and while trudeau jr hasnt really said much about military spending he seems very happy about deploying the CF to these constant fucking natural disasters that are happening because muh climate change or whatever the shit keeps making the west burst into flame and the east flood every time it rains

It seems chill, but I like to liken Canadian government as a whole to the Administratum from 40k, at the risk of being a nerd; the wheels of administration turn slowly but surely, and grind all that get in their way. But on the other hand the administration is so fucking unwieldy that nothing ever really changes for the worse simply because it's so hard to change anything at all. likewise, it's generally not worth it to fuck with people on an administrative level because it's a big rigamarole that could be solved by just telling the person to their face to stop fucking around.

But if you are doing something bad enough to warrant administrative action, holy shit, you will literally never have a job again, you will lose your military pension and your normal gubment pension, and military prison here is some real fucked up shit and we don't even have a double jeopardy clause so you'll probably just go to federal prison right after leaving military prison, and you could get charged multiple times by multiple units for the same single act too, I saw that happen to a guy for going AWOL for one day on a trades course. he got charged by both the school and his home unit, ended up having to pay like two grand or something

How do TS/SS clearance jobs work? Do you have to sign a contract to get in and test for one, so if you fail you get kicked into grunt work?
>>
>>34849277

Fun fact: in most degree fields the military actually has way better compensation than civilian jobs.

People immediately think of CompSci, law, finance, and business degrees... but forget that *most* fields requiring degrees max out in the 60k-80k range.

I was getting better compensation than that as a 23 year old E-5, and that's without counting the value of the pension, or the fact that I had way more vacation than the average professional.
>>
>>34849372

Most states cannot afford to train their local militia, so you join the no shit military to get training and the federal government helps fund your service. That means you're obligated to carry out national mission when called upon.

Some states DO have a state-only guard that takes no money from the federal government and only has to do state stuff... but they're basically unpaid adult boyscouts because ain't nobody got money for that.
>>

They prescreen you before you join if you have a job that needs one. Most people who are good to go on the prescreen end up getting their clearances. It's very rare to get kicked to another job, even in jobs requiring a polygraph.

I recently graduated college with a pretty useless degree because I honestly wanted to spend 4 years partying, and that's what I did, but I've always wanted to serve. I think I can handle SOF training, but would it be better to go to OCS or enlist and try my luck at getting into the CCT pipeline
>>

OCS is easy to get into but incredibly time consuming, plan on 1-2 years. It becomes competitive with a shit GPA and sordid background, and your chance of passing OCS drops dramatically if you choose Marines over Army. I know the USAF won't even board you if you aren't super competitive and can't speak to Navy because I'm not familiar. It's a wiser choice financially but that's about it.

SOF never really a good option, unless you are a glutton for punishment and the self satisfaction is worth the sacrifice. Also consider the odds for failure, despite how good you may believe you are.

Mind if I ask, what is degree in and what is GPA? Did you do any hard drugs in college?
>>
>>34850556
>OCS is easy to get into
Why do I keep seeing conflicting comments on this? Was it harder to get into 2 years ago or something?

Also why should it take 1-2 years? I thought the course only lasted 18 weeks (at least for Army)?
>>
>>34845984
Ok, here's my dilemma:

I'm a school teacher; I want to join the National Guard as a Combat Engineer. Fine. But I'd like to get an Airborne contract if I could. The problem is, my summer break is only just long enough to contain Basic/Engie training. Is there an option that would allow me to take Airborne training at a later date?
>>
>>34850691
>Why do I keep seeing conflicting comments on this? Was it harder to get into 2 years ago or something?

Yes, it changes with the political climate. Obama butchered the military, Trump issued a mandate to build the size of the standing military. In 2013, it was impossible with the federal sequester. Simple as that really.

>Also why should it take 1-2 years? I thought the course only lasted 18 weeks (at least for Army)?

Takes time to build a packet, firstly. It can take quite some time to get three good letters of rec among the other documents you need.

Usually 2-3 months between packet submission and boards.

Usually 6-9 months between selection and ship date.

This is assuming no problems and you not needing any waivers. If you did hard drugs and cop to them, waivers. If you had any surgeries, waivers (usually). Everything adds up.
>>
>>34850705
>Is there an option that would allow me to take Airborne training at a later date?

There is an option that they have to hold your job for 5 years under Federal law. Don't try to plan your military career around your civilian one because it will never work.
>>
>>34850734
I started in July and already have most of my letters in - just waiting on a few more and I'll have a completed packet.

The thing is, I'd really like to postpone my first trip to MEPS for a month since I could use more time to improve my PFT (assuming 275 is what's ideal), but my recruiter seems hellbent on sending me there as soon as I tell him my packet is ready. Am I allowed to postpone it until I'm prepared? The next review board date hasn't even been set yet so I really don't understand the rush.
>>
>>34850823
MEPS isn't relevant to the PFT. Your medical clearance lasts for one year. You can go to MEPS and submit your packet with your PFT in 6 months if you wanted. Be mindful of board dates and deadlines.
>>
>>34850816
>There is an option that they have to hold your job for 5 years under Federal law.

>>
>>34850845

Well if it makes you feel better, I had a somewhat worse GPA than you with a poli sci degree and my recruiter didn't so much as blink when I told him about it.

I've been trying to bust my ass on everything else in my packet though and so far I've turned up a letter of rec that I'm hoping will damn near be a golden ticket. Other than that, a 90+ ASVAB and a PFT over 270 should be sufficient to distract from grades.

It depends how much you are used to running, and how your body feels when you do it. Running too much when you aren't used to it is really bad for your body.
>>
>>34854759
Basically, you say to the Army recruiter, "I want to be Airborne" and then you go to Airborne school and have fun, even though you are run ragged, then get paid an extra 50 bucks a paycheck to run more than normal Army units. Also sometimes you get to jump out of airplanes with heavy packs of Shit hanging off of you, and trying not to get tangled with other jumpers in the air or die. It did cure me of my fear of heights, though.

There's a common system. If you have already submitted anything they will see that you have an RAF application open, so they will mention that.

As you haven't started RAF training or attended any selection events, you won't be in breach of anything but it will look a bit odd. Your AFCO will be notified that you have had a meeting with an Army recruiter, which is standard practice.

What is it you would like to know? Not a recruiter, but I'll do my best.

http://www.nationalreview.com/article/210918/rivalry-normandy-w-thomas-smith-jr

>At the last minute, word was passed down through the Army chain of command that no Marines would be allowed to go ashore, not even riding shotgun on landing craft ferrying Army troops or supplies. Rumors quickly spread that the Army leadership feared a repeat of the media gaffes in 1918. They did not want to see headlines that read, Marines save Rangers at Normandy. Consequently, the Marines were ordered to “stand down.”

how important is this actually

You choose in the 5th week or so
All the SWO candidates get together with a list of available ships and decide. Youll only have one graded evolution, 1 PT test and one test grade in one class at that point so all that crap doesnt come in, at least it shouldn't. Our class didn't do that, not a SWO though

I was told by a friend that, even though I was joining the Marine Corps, to sign up to take the ASVAB with the Navy (my job isn't available until October.) I know that one's score carries over across all branches, but am I bound to a specific branch once I go to MEPS to take the ASVAB?

Is he just blowing smoke up my ass?
>>
>>34862285
To further clarify, he had mentioned that the Navy's ASVAB test had more components or was otherwise more refined than the Marine Corps'.

Again, if this is just nonsense then let me know.

If the Marines do it, another branch does it better. You will make more money than a grocery store with any job in the military. And all branches pay for college.

There is literally no reason to pick marines over any other branch unless you have a GED
>>
>>34862644
I'd like to work on Aircraft. I find it incredibly hard to believe that Aviation Mechanics are wildly different between each branch, especially to the civilian eye.
>>
>>34862673
With the Marines you'll be working with beat to shit outdated aviation equipment on beat to shit outdated aircraft. You'll find better "stuff" in working with aircraft in the Navy (who hands down beat to shit aircraft to the Marines) or in the Air Force (who gets the most updated tech available) or in the Army.
>>
>>34862673
>especially to the civilian eye
Why would that matter at all?
And itll be very different for your eye. You could easily get that job in the navy and hate your life far less.

Every other branch has aviation mechanics who work in better conditions on better equipment with better people

Well, I mean theres good reason. You dont need to be a fitness buff to sit in a dark room operating a navigation center while you have to be in decent shape to be able to haul a water drenched civvie who may or may not be a fatass out of the ocean on a shaky moving vessel.

Now ya fucked up.
After Cape may, you get asked to make a wishlist of your duty station until you goto A school or B school for your billet.
MSRT, TACLET, MSST, and HITRON are all part of A School Maritime Law Enforcement/ME.
Its a long was wait list because everyone sees it as "OH BOY! COAST GARD N GUNS?"
On average is at least a year and a half before you get sent to school. There it is highly competitive.
Getting the highest gpa and performing the best you can will ensure you get a spot at MSRT/MSST.
Hope this helps.

So the stereotypes as I understand them are:

>Army
Too large for its own good. A bureaucratic nightmare. Personnel are overweight and only in it for the signing bonus. Just as good as Marines but don't get nearly as much recognition.

>Navy
Belligerent drunks who would fuck their own mothers if they were loaded enough. Or each other.

>Marines
PT studs with brains the size of an acorn. If you deviate from the Corps' orders then you are as good as dead to them. Also, every Marine wishes Chesty Puller was their father. OOOOOOHRAAAHHHH

>Air Force
Weenie desk jockeys who have too much free time on their hands and not enough muscle mass. Will skate by with the bare minimum in anything that does not require using brainpower. Wants a cushy military experience.

>Coast Guard
The true few and proud.

How accurate are these?

Nowhere near enough cardio.

You should be running distance and getting the miles in. The big thing that people fail on is CV fitness. It's rare that a recruit fails on strength (in fact, it's pretty much unheard of) and you're clearly confident enough with weights anyway.

>Really I want to go Green Beret

A question for that: How do i protect my knees and other joints related to running from degradation and stress? like you said cycling?

Also something i read about muscly SF/SOF. For special long range missions they carry smaller amounts of food and allow the body to eat its muscle (catabolysis) as a food source. That why Jesse Ventura, Arnold S., portray SEALs as huge fuckers.

I read that as long as you were to eat above 500 calories that you wouldn't go into survival mode but catabolysis would happen.
