Whats the best combat shotgun?

I live in a part of the country with dense woods. Honestly it would be rare to be taking shots greater than 200 yards.

Do any of you guys have nice setups? What accessories do you have/like?

looks pretty sick

wouldn't it be better to have a pump though for reliability
>>
Nigger how are you gonna shoot 200 yards with a shotgun, did you even take into account damage drop off at range

Honestly if you're gonna go that far at least get something with a scope or a high powered revolver, fuck a shotgun

I own an 870 but desu if I could do it over I'd get a 500 because the controls are much easier/faster to use and it won't eat your thumb.

you are retarded.

His median range is probably 25 yards.

I live in midlands of south Carolina. I only see past 200 yards on highways, powerlines, and rail roads.

The reliability gap between a competently made semi and a competently made pump is extremely small, unless you're going to be PRIMARILY shooting breaching rounds or less-lethal rounds a semi's benefits outweigh the extremely small gap in reliability.

>>34825911
A standard 2.75" cheapo Foster slug like Federal Truball retains more energy at 200 yards than .44mag has at the muzzle from a 6" barrel.

Sabot slugs are minute-of-man accurate to around 350 yards and hunting accurate to 250 from a rifled slug barrel. Foster slugs through an IC choke are hunting accurate to around 150 yards and minute of man to 200 yards.
>>
>>34825913
The BPS improved on the 37's design in several ways though, and has the added benefit of being still made.
>>
>>34825941
What a coincidence, so have I.
>>
>>34825955
Ithaca is still being made.

not at a decent price though.

The BPS is overrated. There is nothing wrong with Ithaca.

No, a new company that bought the rights to the name is shitting out inferior copies of the Ithaca 37 at 10x what the originals are worth and basically fleecing the gun-owning community by riding a name.

Kind of like Colt and Springfield Armory.

Moved the safety to a less-retarded position (the tang).

Beefed up the receiver and slightly changed the stock geometry.

Better mag cap that plays nice with mag extensions.

Its by the fucking trigger guard. There is nothing retarded about that. you are fucking special if you think a tang saftey makes a differnce.

>Beefed up reciever
holy fuck thats laughable. The reciever on my ithaca is fucking thicc.

>better mag cap.
meh, or dont be a pussy and extend the mag yourself with some welding.

also they make a 7 shot model.

you know what the BPS doesnt have. Fucking slam fire.
>>
>>34826020
I took a look at it just now, and it seems like a nice gun. The only problem is that, unless I am missing something, they do not make a variant with a handier barrel length for defensive use. It's a shame.

Fine for righty hunters, shit for anybody using it in a "tactical" environment or for wrong-handers.
>the receiver on my ithaca is fucking thicc
And the receiver on the BPS is thiccer. Probably doesn't matter either way for durability as they're both forged, I just like the way the BPS balances better.
>just cut and weld 3 separate parts of your collectible, valuable shotgun instead of buying a screw-on mag extension for your non-collectible, $300 shotgun!
Okay so you're just blindly fanboying now.
>they also make a 7 shot model
And Browning at one point made a 9-shot "riot" BPS, although they don't any more and the very few you find on the used market are incredibly expensive.
>muh slamfire
My BPS slamfires just fine, as did all BPS's made prior to 1994.

>>
>>34826005
So prove it. Go ahead and back it. And please don't ignore the much lower production volume or the fact that the Ithaca isn't a design modernized for easier production like the SXP, 870 and 500

>>34826135
Joke's on you because they both use forged arsenal steel (4140 from the same fucking foundry to be specific).
>>
>>34826020
The barrel tang is what a lot of people like about the old M37s. The new ones don't have it and come with longer tubes. Safety it personal preference. Receiver material means fuck all as long as it's built right. The mossberg 835 is aluminum, the benelli novas are mostly polymer, the barrels takes all the beating which is minimal because shotguns shells are low pressure as fuck. I like the BPS but it's a meh "improvement". Doesn't really work the same way either since it's not a clone

Briley does mag tube extensions for the 10g though, so there's that

ha. you have never used a gun other than being at the range right? i can take off the saftey while keeping my finger on the trigger. There is nothing more tactical about a tang saftey unless you are a god forbidden lefty.

>BPS is thicker
Poor metalurgy so we add more metal. its the ruger meme.

>cutting up a shotgun
its really fanboying if you are a fan of vietnam.
that shit look sexy as fuck.

>BPS rito
meh. i would rather have a better gun than 2 more rounds.
Also ithaca 37 can function aguila minishells. My 7 shot ithaca riot can hold 13 in the tube.

>dont discount the ability to slam fire.

>I like my thumb knuckle still having skin on it tho.
learn how to hold a gun.

>In 1987, new owners Ithaca Acquisition, Inc. moved manufacturing to King Ferry, New York. In 2005, it received a $150,000 development loan from Cayuga County,[16] and in May of that year moved to larger facilities in Auburn.[17]
>After being unable to facilitate an operational manufacturing facility in Auburn, the owners sold all of Ithaca's assets, trademarks, and manufacturing rights to the Marshalls from Upper Sandusky, Ohio.
>Unable to secure state or local financing assistance with the startup conversion, the Marshalls were forced to sell the company in the best interest of the company's name and its people.[18] Dave Dlubak purchased the company in June 2007, and it continues to operate in Upper Sandusky, Ohio.

I personally dislike the barrel tang, and it really fucks up the ability to do mag extensions, and it's moot anyway when comparing new-made Ithacas to new-made BPS's.

Agreed the receiver material or thickness is really a nonissue.

I never claimed they were large improvements, but they are nonetheless improvements on a shotgun that's already $200 cheaper than a 37.

The BPS is a slightly modified 37 and is actually closer to Browning's original design than the 37 is.

>>34826236
>the poor metallurgy meme again
>hey your point about lefties is irrelevant....unless you're a lefty!
>it's perfectly okay to cut up a shotgun instead of spending less time, effort, and money on a screw-on extension that'd be more reliable anyway!
>muh slamfire!
Boy you're just full of good ones today aren't you.

>>34826269
Neither company does in-house heat treatment tho, that's done by the foundry that forges them. Which as already established is the same goddamn one.

I get it off the Ithaca forums and shotgunworld because I played hell for nearly 20 years trying to find replacement parts for my Mag 10 after they were bought out in '87.
>>
>>34826111
>the trench gun
Got some news for ya, just about any shotgun that could be bought at the time was a trench gun. There was no ONE trench gun. Winchesters, Remingtons, Ithys, Stevens and anything else that was available got used, because shotguns for the most part are shotguns. Even the 590s military pedigree is pretty dull since it was the only gun that really got testing and the tests were pretty mild. The M4 super 90 is a different story, but that doesn't have all that much to do with the M1014
>>
>>34826240
Oh no let me clarify, I don't give a shit about the company changing hands. It's done that a number of times. I'm talking about your quality claims. There aren't many firearms companies that are still under "original ownership"
>>
>>34825649

I like my Benelli M4, so I say the Benelli M4.
>>
>>34826333
It's a pretty undisputed fact that the original Ithaca guns were built extremely well and almost never had issues with malfunctions prior to expected wear-out points in the tens of thousands (or higher) round counts.

The new ones are fucking up (admittedly only on occasion) right out of the box.

That said, Maverick 88 because it's cheap and you have to be a complete fucking retard to somehow make it not work. I'm serious. Only the dumbest motherfucker on the planet can fuck up a nearly retard-proof pump design.

Then again I've seen somebody actually jam a Rossi single-shot so potato magic truly knows no limit.

>I get it off the Ithaca forums and shotgunworld
ha you are fucking joke. I have contacted former employees of the real ithaca and the modern sham. Ithaca never kept the records and no one knows.
>>
>>34826518
Yeah nah you're full of shit.

The head barrel guy for Ithaca posts on shotgunworld. I have spoken with him at length in person trying to get a new barrel for my mag 10 during the lull in manufacturing during changeover (Ithaca Acquisitions hired him as part of their parts disposal team).

They have the records. They have not been made public, but they have the records.

Also there's the forging proofs on the lower tang.

The reliability thing with pump actions vs. semis is only relevant if you're using some low-power specialized rounds like bean bags or something.

I don't know about that. There's some cheap autoloaders out there that are absolute trash. Pump is still the ultimate poorfag gun.
