Just so you know, the cheap 1911's are not milspec like most of the major brands. Stuff like the sights may be proprietary, new grips might need a little work to fit, and some internal parts may also be proprietary.

Yes handguns only. Easier to carry around when I go camping and stuff. I can also just holster it and keep it out of the way when fishing. Otherwise, yeah a shotgun would be my first choice.

Nothing in the lower 48 is very dangerous at all. The only danger is with mountain lions that you don't see, so it wouldn't matter which gun you had.

Arm yourself for the two legged threats that you would find in the city. Backwoods meth heads are far more dangerous than any critter your likely to find innawoods. If a "woods gun" gives you a special feel then get what your heart desires. .357 and .45 hardcast wil do the job.. hell, hardcast .380 and 9mm should do fine as well
