I prefer HK so I've got no dog in that race. Also, the Glock lost the MHS selection because it was not modular and it was more expensive. It's amazing that it got as far as it did when it didn't fit into the xm17 program at all.

But if it makes you feel better to think that everyone who shits on the P320 for being the first production handgun that is not drop safe in about a century is really just a butt hurt glockfag go on ahead.

Maybe there wouldn't be so much noise if Sig reps didn't deny the problem until the moment they couldn't, and issued an actual recall instead of calling it a "voluntary free upgrade" and running their mouths off about how having completely drop safe guns is actually bad for you and how they actually did you a service.

Would it be an overreaction to want to sell my p320s?

I'm sure SIG will fix the issue but I don't like how they didn't come out and just admit there may be a problem. SIG's first response to the Dallas PD issue said there were no drop safety concerns from the commercially sold p320s even though these issues were coming from LEO side. Then when a number of videos showcasing the drop issue started surfacing SIG refuses to do a full recall and instead opting for a voluntary upgrade. They have probably known about the drop issues for a while which is why they have a fix for it already and that the army contract guns already have the upgrades installed. Lastly I feel SIG has expanded into various shit too quickly which is why they've had spotty QC issues on a number of their guns.

Didn't that cop have the p320 holstered but the whole unit dropped on the floor causing a discharge into his leg below the knee or something like that? I can't find the particular details but that is some scary shit if the gun is holstered yet goes off due to a fall impact. I'd imagine the holster acts as some sort of padding but wasn't enough to stop the gun from going off.

>Gun in holster
>Safety on

>Goes off

>>
>>34829248
The issue seems to be with the weight of the trigger/its ability to overcome the tension upon it and effectively 'pull itself' when it strikes a hard surface. A holster will stop specific parts of the gun from getting jostled around and challenged if this were a bad hammer or something on a different firearm, but unless it's actually a foam holster or fucking thicc leather the impulse on the system as a whole will be basically the same, and the free hanging trigger within the system is going to pull regardless.

>>
>>34831998

Maks will not fire when dropped on the hammer.
They have a free floating pin, so there is a possibility they would fire if dropped on the muzzle from a sufficient height, but at that point the round is going into the ground, not into your head.
They were also designed with berdan 9x18 with super hard primers, so it was of even less concern.

So all things considered, yes, the P320 is less drop safe than a Mak.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this "firing when dropped" issue - its at a very specific angle that this occurs and not any other way, correct?

and that it passed safety checks for being drop safe because they don't test for every concievable angle and method of drop?

So whats to say there aren't dozens of models that are on the market that would fire if dropped in a very specific way, but passed said safety checks?
>>
>>34833316
The problem with Springfield is giving money to a company that backstabbed gun owners, not the guns themselves you moron

Why is it always handguns that get the most fights going? Is it a status symbol like daggers used to be or something?

At any rate, I'm pretty happy with the 320, been really good all around at everything. Gen 1 though with the larger slide release and such, and I'm not about to take a hammer to it to see if it goes off. I wonder if they'll put the gen 2 fcg on it too, will they do that as well?

Look at this
Yeah, nominally, they're there to make it easier to grip but all they do is clutter it up so that it's more distinctive. Even if it's uglier, it's better from a sales perspective because it won't get confused with Glocks as easily. Marketing 101.

I dropped my p320 a few times from a height of 6' onto hardwood floor as well as hitting the back with a hammer. The striker wouldn't drop but I do have the Apex trigger installed which may help because it is lighter than the stock trigger.

The idea of reducing the mass of the trigger, striker, and other parts in the upcoming "upgrade" may actually fix the problem. I'd rather Sig release the tabbed trigger so we have additional mechanisms in place to make the gun drop safe. But in the end I don't like how they handled this situation - Cohen's retarded statement about legitimizing gun mishandling and not doing a full recall - shows Sig doesn't care about the civilian or LEO customers.

>where meme tier understanding of pistol toting action heros snapped everyone's neck wearing light blue jeans up to the naval and leather jackets with long hair

That's literally where the misunderstanding of firearms began. People like James bond scoring one shot kills with a walther ppk from 50ft away after casually turning around one handed.
>>
>>34833499

We'd have to examine the inner workings and assess whether or not the gun we choose to carry has enough mechanisms and safeties in place to prevent a discharge on a drop. With the P320 the trigger has no real weight on the take up except when you hit the wall before the break. The take up on the p320 is very short and its purpose is to depress the lever which disengages the firing pin block on the p320 - apparently inertia from a fall is enough to move the trigger back far enough to disengage the firing pin block. At that point an impact force is enough to jar the sear-striker and allow for the striker to fall causing the discharge.

Many other striker fired pistols work similar to a glock in that the trigger bar/trigger needs to move a longer distance than the p320 to hit and disengage the firing pin block then continue to the break where the striker is allowed to release. By having a bladed trigger safety, like you see on glock triggers, you prevent the movement unless your finger is actively pulling the trigger.. Be aware that fully tensioned strikers (VP9 and PPQ) can release a striker on a fall or hammer blow but with a working firing pin block there is no way the striker hits the primer so it leads to a dead trigger.

Alright I just replaced the apex trigger to the stock p320 trigger and did the 6' drop at the -30 degree angle on my hardwood floor. I was finally able to get the striker to drop on a few occasions. It was difficult to get the gun to fall at the right angle but it shows that the drop safety is an issue for my particular p320.

To really see if the trigger moving backwards was the issue I placed a packing peanut behind the trigger to prevent movement. I then dropped it from the 6' height and could not get the striker to drop after 6 drops. The proposed "updates" from Sig should fix the drop safety issue but I really want a tabbed trigger safety like a glock as another mechanism to prevent discharges.
>>
Isn't the drop safety requirements of military and the police the excuse for why H&K has stiff and shitty triggers in all their guns?

Those are true though. Law of unintended consequences and personalizing incentives

If you mandated that every car had to have a sharp spike on the steering wheel where the airbag typically is you would 1. Not have many purchases of cars but more importantly 2. Extremely safe drivers.

It just makes sense if you think about it for a minute. It's not like it's mysterious that with the recent advances in automobile safety technology the amount of deaths in accidents has dropped while the amount of traffic accidents has risen.
