Question;
I have this sks (left) and this is how a round sits in the crown. It tends to have pretty bleh accuracy about 6-12 inch groups at 100yards.
I saw a few at my local gun shop, and this is how a round sits in the crown (right). All the ones in the shop were about like this. Is mine just fucked?

Long and short.
Sits high in the others, sits pretty low in mine.
Bumping.

Is that an Albanian "July 10th"?
>>34812780
Not sure. It's just a pic I found on the net. I like the charging handle of the Albanian sks. Mines a norinco made in the 80's. The one st the shop is from the mid to late 50's. Also Chinese.
your barrel has a good amount of wear. What conditions are you printing the groups under? What ammo? How expereinced of a shooter are you?

Pretty calm days. And I'm a decent shooter. With a ar15 or a mini I can do much better. The Slav sights are kinda hard for me to pick up. My eyes aren't as good as they once were.

Are you standing, prone, bagged?
you can widen the notch on the rear sight with a small round file, it helps a lot to pick up the front sight

I'm at work now, so this will have to do. I work nights.

Usually bench, but no rest. Just arms and elbows as a support. I might have to do that to the rear sight.
My chink.

Does that mean the barrel is fucked? The rifling still looks pretty good in it. How many rounds does it take to do that?
>>34813537
It's still serviceable. Just practice with it.
Thoughly clean it. I mean make that barrel shine. Get some MilMom TwB25. Saturate a patch and run it several times and then swab the barrel with a cotton patch. I cleaned my crown with a spent 223 brass case making sure the crown was uniform. Take out a couble combloc loads and you may see your groups tighter. Good luck the above worked well for me three times now.

>speaking of sks troubles...

Oh, we're doing this again.
Check for crown damage, Ivan might have just cleaned it from the muzzle habitually. Recrowning might solve your issues.
Worst case, slug your barrel and start making reloads with a slightly larger bullet just for this gun, or try different brands of ammo.
Or sell it to some other schmuck.

How have the tapco mags been working for you?
