>easily stripped
>millions of different sizes in metric and SAE
>you never grab the right Allen key the first time

Allen head is a cancer on the gun world. Why can't everything be flathead or at least be torx so we have a few standard sizes we need to work with?
>>
>>34808629
>you never grab the right Allen key the first time

just use calipers dummy
>>
>>34808629
Allens are superior. You're just too stupid to do it right.
>>
>>34808629
The problem is using screws that aren't hardened.
>>
>>34808629
you are too stupid to use tools
>>
>>34808629
>he can't tell 5/64 vs 1/8 on sight

Honestly never own firearms you useless idiot
>>
>>34808629
torx is best
>>
If companies standardized sizes it wouldn't be a problem
>this has to be 1.5 mm
>this is def 2 mm
>>
>>34808772
eh, i like square head best, i have 3 dozen different allen wrenches and still run into screws i don't have the right driver for. even flat and phillips heads vary enough to need multiple drivers for both.
>>
>>34808772
No they're not, torx will replace hexagon sockets in the long run. Torx is the strongest.
>>
>>34808758
>just use two tools for a task that should only require one!
No, anon.
>>
>>34809824
Square drive is strongest
>>
>>34810913

this, but nobody will use them because they were invented by a canadian.
>>
>>34808629
>>easily stripped
This is the part that pisses me off
>get so tired of of these fucking shits
>buy a really decent set
>get a Trijicon MRO
>lightly hand tighten the screws about three times
>fourth time it starts to strip out
>now I can't properly tigthen them at all
Ugh
>>
>easily stripped

You're as retarded as people that think Philips heads are better than flat heads in any way other than convenience.
>>
>>34810972
Take a Drexel and cut a flathead slot in the bolt

I really should just go ahead and do that whenever I see 3/32" or smaller hex keys. They will strip if you look at them funny.
>>
>>34811010
Do you mean a dremel? And yea, I think I'm going to have to do that. I've done it before but with just flat heads. My only concern is that it will weaken the strength of the bolt head. I might just see if I can find something that has the thread specs on these bolts/machine screws and pick up some.
>>
>>34811058
Yup. Autocorrect

That's what happened to me lol

>>34810990
Philips of course are better for speed, as they self-center unlike flathead which pretty much can't be used with power tools at all.
>>
>>34811752
>That's what happened to me lol
Really feels bad, doesn't it? You'd think they'd be willing to spend more, y' know?
>>
>>34808629

Gun designer/manufacturer assholes sometimes use some weird shit. I would recommend just researching what the size is (Google it, someone else has probably asked the same question). I just had to buy a #6-48 tap, which I didn't even know existed. Neither did the machinists and maintenance guys I know. Searching for #6-48 tap then takes you straight to Brownell's and MidwayUSA, which proves that the designers are assholes.

A hex socket screw head isn't easily stripped if you use the right wrench. Also, flatheads sucks.
>>
>>34808629
I was in the navy fixing f-18's, I was so jealous of the super hornet guys cause they used these fastners. I was stuck on regular hornets having to use a moon shaped flat head.
>>
>>34812267
>A hex socket screw head isn't easily stripped if you use the right wrench.
On larger ones? Sure. On smaller hex screws? They strip out like crazy.
>>
>>34808629
are you honestly a proponent of flathead fasteners? holy shit man i'm going to be laughing for days thank you
>>
>>34809307
>>34809824
>>34810913
What about torx plus?
>>
>>34809335
square drives are not square, are not strong, I have driven 100s of those bastards and they strip. I'm now strictly Torx
>>
>>34808629
How would torx help with grabbing the right key? Perhaps you should get your eyes checked instead?
>>
>>34808629
Then stop buying shit. Higher quality scope mounts and other components don't use Allen keys. They use torx for the screws holding the mount to the scope and a bolt that you tighten with a socket to attach the mount to the rail, and as both of those options are compatible with a torque wrench you can easily torque everything to the manufacturer's specifications.
>>
>>34811058
cutting a slot will not weaken socket head cap screws. countersunk screws might have a problem, though.
>>
>>34808629
>flathead
>torx
>both used in the same sentence as two examples of good fasteners

Do you have brain damage? What could possibly compel you to equate these two?
>>
>>34812362
torx sizes are easily visually distinguishable.
>>
>>34812506
not him but, flathead can take moar torque than Phillips and almost any screw can have a notch cut into it when the hex strips out.

torx is GOAT tier, imo.

the real problem is chink pot metal screws. use grade 8 fasteners from north americlap or yuro manufacturers and your problems go away.
>>
>>34809335
>>34810913
>>34810944
I don't know why Canadians have such a hard on for robertsons. Yes it's better than phillips for most purposes, but worse than hex, which is then worse than torx. Torx is simply the best of the common ones out there.
>>
>>34812581
>the real problem is chink pot metal screws

bingo^
doesnt matter what kind of driver you use if its potmetal

Robertson #2 is the only screw worth talking about. I literally throw out every fastener I find in my home that is not Robertson #2 and replace it with same.
You americans are fucking playing yourselves with phillips, flatheads, torx, and anything else that isn't the beloved Robertson #2

Nigger are you on crack? Of course square drive is the strongest and it shits all over torx, phillips, hex and all the other jokers. It's nearly impossible to round over a square shaped hole and the reason why it's all that is used on ratchets and impact guns.

Also, square drive fasteners hold onto the driving tool making them a dream to use. I'm not even Canadian, just an American who knows.
