Reminder all California residents must register their bullet button assault weapons before July 2018. Compliance is mandatory, and you only have 325 days left before the deadline.

You can submit details about your weapons here, for a small fee of $15.

Remember to include several clear photographs of the assault weapon, especially of the bullet button magazine locking device.

Again compliance is mandatory, and violators will be caught.

An additional reminder, that all ghost guns and home built assault weapons must be serialized, in addition to the registration process.

All you have to do is either go featureless or use a new "fixed mag" solution like the MA Clip loader. That's easier said than done on anything not an AR, or you could take the gun apart for now. personally all registration is just a pre-text for confiscation. My advice is avoid at all costs.

>>34804067
According to CA DOJ's made up bullshit putting one of those on a bullet button is illegal, registered or not.

>>34806735
Looks like an 80 percent arms jig.
>>
What if I don't comply?

And I heard if you register, you get to uncuck your AR. Is that true?
>>
>>34803440
Yeah. Basically it's just a game of keep away.

Do not register, just switch out to a break, have fixed stock ( which I actually prefer anyway) and put a kydex wrap on your pistol grip.

No gunsmithing really, though if you wish to "git gud" with a wrap you'll want an ambi saftey selector lever.

Most people in CA run free float rails and muzzle breaks anyway for competition.
>>
>>34812667
If you don't register or modify/take apart your rifle you can be arrested and charged with illegal possession starting July 1st 2018. CA DOJ explicitly states in their regulations that once registered you can never modify the magazine release mechanism other than replacing it with an exact duplicate.

The short version is the 3rd set of identical regulations submitted by DOJ were approved by OAL (Office of Administrative law) very recently and are now effective law. There is an incoming lawsuit to challnge the regulations on California APA violations (45 day minimum public comment period), due process, as well as problematic 4th and 5th amendment issues as well as the regulations drastically expanding the scope of the law, such as including shotguns in the regs despite rifles and pistols only being effected by the legal text.

You're getting yourself into some legal grey area, there's no law they can charge you with breaking but CHP might decide to screw with you. For instance when I travel to Nevada or Oregon I'll sometimes install a pistol grip in place of my hammer head. Technically you're outside California's jurisdiction and thus aren't breaking any California laws. Really the state would have to take the step of claiming you can still violate state law as a resident while no inside the state.

>>34813035
$15, load of bullshit. Hell the state just paid out $38K in tax dollars to FPC to cover their legal fees.
>>
>>34813030
Technically most governments can legislate outside of their geographical jurisdictions (tends to be relevant in larger countries like US, Aus and Canada where its more likely you can commit a crime outside the state that impacts the state). It tends to be easier for states to do so because sovereign governments have to deal with treaties.
That said while they can it would be almost impossible to enforce given the obvious lack of jurisdiction and the fact the states in question likely would be upset at the disregard for their laws.
The end result if California tried to push the issue would be losing a challenge in the supreme court or just getting cuked when that state told them to fuck off and ending up with egg on its face.

If all I need to do is stamp some numbers I'll get on it before next year, if I need to send off that I have a gun form and 14 bucks I might as well, I don't have anything that isn't registered already.
>>
>>34802316
If they're registering them as assault weapons does that mean you can get rid of the bullet button and have a normal magazine release and any scary salt feature you want?
>>
>>34813716
You'll have to apply to CA DOJ as an "Unlicensed Subject" and receive a serial issued by them and only them, then engrave a whole bunch of other information onto the lower. The effective date at which point possession of an universalized "ghost gun" is criminal is January 1st 2019.

Personally I don't trust the state full-stop with any information and I won't be complying.

>>34813790
According to CADOJ's regulations recently approved by OAL you can't modify the magazine release full stop other than replacing it with an exact duplicate, (this includes a magnet). DOJ might also take issue with you removing or adding "features". There will be a lawsuit for reasons I've stated above but for now it's the current law.

Which will be replaced tenfold by all of the dingbats, nitwits, and stringwarts who flood in from all of the other states. Every other state sends their waste products to California. The solution is not running away. Eventually you run out of places to run so you wind up outnumbered, cornered, and tired. You've also given a secure bastion to the other side. Handing over 13% of the population of the country without a fight is not a winning strategy.

Keeping up an innovative guerilla campaign buys time. Noncompliance, devising ban-compliant ARs, and well-timed lawsuits keeps the grabbers playing whack-a-mole instead of firming up their grip.

Keep in mind, any bullshit law that is implemented here, that makes it past the Ninth Circuit, can then be effortlessly implemented in all of the other states in the Ninth Circuit. Once that happens, it becomes much easier to float those same laws into the other circuits.

This, tbqh fampai.
The solidarity and ability to be heard among pro-gun voters in CA doesn't matter, the CA DOJ, state assembly, governors, and senators have outright stated they will not listen to the NRA because they believe it's a gun manufacturer lobby group (despite being the single most legitimate spokesperson for gun owners.) They feel the same way about the CPRA, too.

They outright refuse to listen to pro-gun voters in the state, if they did they'd be working to negotiate for "common sense" legislation. But they don't. They don't give a fuck about you, move the fuck out and stop paying taxes to them.
>>
>>34817414
We're talking about a slightly different scenario where the firearm you're transporting out of state is disassembled or otherwise in a configuration where it's not considered an "Assault weapon".

So say you have a lower and upper separated, putting the 2 together while inside California would create an illegal unregistered AW. You travel to Nevada, assemble the rifle, and disassemble it before crossing the border back into California.
>>
>>34817456
From my understanding, a sole AR15 lower with collapsible stock and pistol grip WITHOUT a fixed magazine is an assault weapon.
Your only saving grace would be removing the collapsible stock (or just sticking with a fixed length) and attaching a featureless grip every time you re-enter the state.
>>
>>34817492
An AR-15 lower by itself with a pistol grip and or telescoping stock without a barrel or action isn't a defacto assault weapon because you can still build it into a legal config such as a semi-auto rimfire or manual action. There's also no "constructive possession" for AWs in Cali.

What we're talking about is California attempting to assert jurisdiction for actions committed outside their border and then retroactively apply criminal charges.

As an example prostitution is legal in Nevada besides the counties that outlaw it. You go to the bunny ranch and pay for sex, which is legal in Nevada, but illegal in California. California could try to arrest you for prostitution despite the action never occurring within their jurisdiction after you cross back over the border.
>>
>>34802316

>COMPLY ENTIRELY
>Include a smarmy paper sign saying "Not because you told me tol!!!"

Wow what a rebel
>>
>>34817519
This, honestly, would be within the context of "If you want to try this, get a lawyer."
For example, I could sell a completed AR lower with detachable magazine and features on Armslist with the statement that you only put a manual action upper/rimfire kit on it, but it could very well be illegal. And the likelihood of you getting arrested for it goes up even more if you're transporting it across a state line with a centerfire semi-auto upper next to it, and not with a rimfire upper.

Converting your rifle to featureless before you enter the state again is certainly more of a hassle, but it's also a much more safe bet as far as staying within the laws go.
>>
>>34817541
>Converting your rifle to featureless before you enter the state again

That was my main point and it's what I currently do, although these last few trips I haven't bothered to take my featureless grip off. Like I said there's no constructive possession in California for AWs, however there is one case where a dood basically told a cop he planned to assemble his upper and lower and got convicted of "attempted illegal possession and manufacturing"

It's going to come down to how much DOJ and/or CHP wants to fuck with you.

California is more than the bay area and LA, you know. Those are the places where all of the out of state trash accumulates. There's a whole shitload of rural counties with few people, low cost of living, and lots of places to shoot.

Humboldt County is borderline ok. Bigger than Rhode Island, 130K people, 7 incorporated cities. If we could get HSU to shut down, it would be perfect.

Sadly, those are pretty much going away, thanks to the fucking growing radioactive aura of the bay area.

I lived in a small town in the Sierras for most my life filled with gun-friendly people and cheap housing. Now, about 20 years later, the rental situation's almost as bad as San Francisco, it's been overrun with trashy tattoo'd pierced to hell liberals that live off of their parent's money, and all of the gun stores have closed or moved.

Not so fast there. BLM land is not all shootable, anything in San Bernadino or Riverside for example you're banned from shooting on by county ordnance.
