Do you think the Philippine Arm and other armed forces of the Philippines are capable of dealing with the Islamic insurgency going on in Marawi? Is the air support we're giving them going to be enough? Or would a ground-force presence of American troops be required?
>>
No

Even the American Army cannot defeat Isis. Philippines is a lost cause.
>>
>>34801295
If the U.S. wanted ISIS defeated, they'd be defeated by now.
>>

Elaborate
>>
>>34801252

As of right now we're not giving them air support it's still in the discussion stage as the Philippine military doesn't want the US to dictate what are targets. Also I think they're running short on personnel considering their president is asking for 20K more troops. Since many other parts of the country believes there isn't enough troops to protect the country.
>>
>>34801252
They could probably end it if the military just bomb that fucking mosque the terrorists are hiding in.
>>
You don't win unless you commit. See reconquista in Spain, Crusades, Ottoman. That is why it is critical that we stop Islam from spreading in the United States, history repeats.

The Philippines has the most powerful armed forces in the region. Any additional help, would be redundant.

How naive and stupid can you be? That's because Americunts don't want to defeat them. They want to keep them alive in certain degree to keep stirring shit up, just like what they did to Al-Qaeda before.
>>
>>34801312
A US senator said it best, if ISIS is defeated, Iran will only get stronger.

>Army of 66,000 with combined arms vs 500~ militants

Why would the U.S. need to get involved? What exactly do you think the U.S. military could do in this situation that isn't already being done? The Islamic militants are fighting a war of attrition that they're destined to lose eventually. Currently they're seperated into isolated pockets of resistance.

Marawi's not a problem we're already we're already wiping our boots on their black pajamas.
It's just gonna be another Zamboanga.

But we've had an Islamic Insurgency for a very long time, and we don't really have the capability to wipe them out.

Our equipment isn't really that up to par, and we barely even have an airforce.

How the fuck is that still ongoing? There were 500 of those ISIS guys. They don't have any foreign backers and lack modern weapons.

Shit, if it was a real ISIS unit for ME, they would have probably taken Manila by now.

>>
>>34809349

In the US Military we have huge logistical network to the point we had an Army General says we can have a forces on the ground in any trouble spot within 24 hours. I doubt the Philippine military has the same ability. Most of their navy is old ships of some sort, small patrol crafts and at the end of the day I doubt they have enough container ships to effectively supply military advances like one would equate to the US military. Plus they don't have the airstrike support that's being found in the ME cause the Philippines don't have enough aircraft and haven't asked their allies for help. Much of that is due to their president being a dick to his country's long time ally and trying to...show that the Philippines is an independent country that doesn't require the aid of outsiders. All of which is probably compounded by years if not decades of corruption siphoning away funds for modernization. Finally there could be fears that the Maoist rebels that they had agreements with may end up evaporating and they may have to fight them to in a lot more places.

You'd be surprised. Before this Duterte was kicking out the U.S military and cozying up to China which would certainly be motivation for the U.S to start a problem then come in and save the day by giving Duterte all those shiny new guns for free that China would make him pay for. Now this nation that was moving away from the sphere of influence of the US to that of China is now US dependent once again. Cant say for sure that's what is happening but it makes logical sense and the CIA certainly wouldn't be morally above it based on what they've done in the past.

"Another tactic would be for our intelligence agencies to create false flag terrorist organizations that would compete with al Qaeda. To sow confusion within al Qaeda’s ranks, it would cause nodes to doubt the identity of others and to question the validity of communications and contacts. Acts required to do this may fall afoul of different federal laws. Rules prohibiting fraud, interference with the security of the Internet and banking systems, and cooperation with former terrorists might have to be changed or interpreted to exclude operations designed to undermine terrorist groups hostile to the United States."
- John Yoo Former Deputy Assistant U.S. Attorney General, DOJ Office of legal Council
John Yoo wrote DOJ memos justifying The Bush administrations use of "Enhanced Interrogation Techniques", domestic surveillance, warrantless searches, and a general expansion of executive power.

"When conventional military operations and bombing failed to defeat the Mau Mau insurgency in Kenya in the 1950s, the British formed teams of friendly Kikuyu tribesmen who went about pretending to be terrorists. These “pseudo gangs,” as they were called, swiftly threw the Mau Mau on the defensive, either by befriending and then ambushing bands of fighters or by guiding bombers to the terrorists’ camps. What worked in Kenya a half-century ago has a wonderful chance of undermining trust and recruitment among today’s terror networks. Forming new pseudo gangs should not be difficult."

“Terrorism is the best political weapon for nothing drives people harder than a fear of sudden death”.
– Adolph Hitler

“Why of course the people don’t want war … But after all it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship … Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.”
– Hermann Goering, Nazi leader.

“The easiest way to gain control of a population is to carry out acts of terror. [The public] will clamor for such laws if their personal security is threatened”.
– Josef Stalin

I'd risk a stronger Iran vs. a ISIS existing at all. Even if they are religious fundamentalists to a degree, the Iranians have became more liberal in terms of their gov't over time and they aren't all religious fundamentalists that are incapable of diplomacy. For Christ's sake, they even managed to partner with a non-Muslim nation like Russia

>>34806184
It really isn;t another Nam. The Filipinos know what the Philippines landscape looks like so they are more adverse to the tricks that ISIS pull, unlike with us and the Vietcong. Plus, natives of Mawari are less adverse to the Philippine gov't pulling in and calling for law and order than a bunch of foreigners that all of a sudden came into Vietnam and looked different and spoke differently than the native population
