Is there any reason NOT to use +P ammo? I don't know of a single gun that will take standard pressure but not +P. Even old guns handle it just fine as long as they are not heavily rusted or otherwise damaged. In fact, +P used to be the standard pressure before the 1970s. Why would anyone want slower bullets?
>>
For shooting targets
>>
>>34792291
I know a lot of people use the cheapest ammo they can get their hands on for target practice, but in that case, why not just use a 22?
>>
>>34792178
In handguns, +P tends to expand more quickly and not penetrate as deep as standard pressure. Also sights settle more quickly with stsndard pressure obviously
>>
>>34792178
70's era loads were +p compared to now, because SAAMI lowered the specs
>>
>>34792178
>shoot your enemy
>bullet penetrates and hits small child behind
>go to jail, life ruined

there's no reason to use +P unless you might encounter big game or are prepping for war.
>>
>>34792360
There are positive recreational aspects to discharging firearms besides marksmanship
>>
>>34792178
No reason to use +P unless you're using a cartridge that can't do shit without being +P

10mm +P? .357 Magnum +P?

RIFLE CARTRIDGE +P?

I rest my case
>>
>>34792456
That's only a problem with non expanding bullets.
>>34792423
Yes.
>>34792411
Most handgun bullets are lucky to expand at all.
>>34792518
There are a lot of anemic 357 mag loads. Hot 357 is usually not called +P, but it may as well be compared to the weak stuff you see on shelves.
>>
>>34792178
Lower recoil, lower price, and nobody likes being shot anyway. If somebody PCPs their way through being shot +p+ isn't going to somehow stop them.
>>
Depends on the gun, but even on one perfectly suited to +P you have slightly increased wear. On weak guns like the Charter Bulldog you'll break the damn thing.
>>
>>34792549
Not any of the ones I carry will be "lucky" to expand
>>
>>34792360
Because firearms aren't just about shooting defensively.
>>
Unsupported chambers are probably the #1 reason not to, unless you like the idea of your gun kBing like a Glock brand Glock 40.
>>
>>34792558
Might as well own a 380.
>>34792575
Realistically, only competitive shooters would ever wear out a gun.
>>34792582
You'd be surprised. Hollowpoints have a tendency to get clogged with fabric and skin and fail to expand.
>>34792851
I don't own a Glock, so I don't have that problem.
>>
>>34792518
>10mm +P? .357 Magnum +P? RIFLE CARTRIDGE +P?
That's called shooting them hot.
>>
>>34792360
you cant hit a target reliably with a 22lr out to 600 yards.
>>
>>34793849
You can't hit a target at that distance with anything short of a high velocity rifle. Forget handguns.

>50 AE +p+ won't stop them
>>
>>34793814
That's why I use RIP ammo.
>>
>>34792178
>costs less
>less wear and tear on the gun
>recoil isn't as snappy
Depends on what you're using it for, but if you're just shooting targets then you don't need +P

This. Ballistic gel =\= human bodies with varying tissue densities, bones, and of course clothes
>>
>>34792558
Penetration to vital organs/cns will stop even the most determined drugged up assailant
>>
>>34794530
Isn't this kinda why the FBI standard was three layers of denim?
>>
>>34794547
That's what you think.
>>
>>34792456
You retards like to preach this but in most states, the fault of any injuries incurred during any self-defense shooting falls on the instigator. Also, if your ammunition is marketed as being for self-defense and something goes awry due to the ammo (and over-penetration of that magnitude is classed as being a fault of the ammo) liabilities fall onto that ammo manufacturer as well.

For God's sake hot .44 magnum isn't very likely to completely penetrate a human torso, let alone your little +p 9mm. Ballistics gel is NOT the same consistency as human flesh, no matter how many idiots keep parroting that it is. Besides, you have dense bone and watery organ meat inside you as well.

Over-penetration being an issue with defensive handgun shooting is overblown to the point of being fuddlore. /k/ just likes to parrot it because it doesn't sound as stupid as '.22 will bounce in your skull'.

It depends on the sectional density and expansion of the bullet. Also, the body is hollow in many places.

Are you sure about that?
>>
>>34794567
Please post an example of a drugged up assailant who had a bullet enter his heart, major artery, or spine, who kept fighting.
>>
>>34794767
Sectional density is a meaningless designator.
>>
>>34794818
Lots of people keep moving after being shot in the heart. Deer aren't all that different from human, physiologically speaking, and any deer hunter can tell you they run after being shot in the heart.

They're lucky to expand because they're so fucking slow. The faster you drive the bullet, the more reliable expansion becomes, which acts as a check on penetration.

>Not using 50A.E. +p+p+p+ explosive rounds
>not registering your Deagle brand Deagle as a DD.
>>
>>34795814
The projectiles might be destructive devices, but the gun wouldn't be.

Because manufacturers think adding a little extra powder justifies doubling or even tripling the cost per bullet.

stop perpetuating this fudd nonsense, it would be horrible to accidentally shoot anyone, but the aggressor is legally responsible for any and all injuries, not you
>>

Actually i was basing my opinion on medical science and the evidence provided by medical examiners, but believe what you will
>>
>>34794864
The testimony in question literally said he formed his opinion from stab wounds not gun shots. He also does not offer an opinion about ones ability to remain mobile and in the fight, he simply implies they can survive. And on top of all that you have the audacity to infer 'many' from one solitary opinion.
>>34794869
Again, surviving and still being able to fight are two completely different things.
>>
>>34795855
This is why you handload your +p+++ ammo, duh
