>SPECIAL FORCES TRY OUT 'BOBA FETT' BULLETPROOF HELMETS
>The helmet - similar to the one worn by bounty hunter Boba Fett - can withstand an AK47 bullet and will allow elite Special Air Service troops to detect the enemy in any terrain
>A Star Wars-style helmet that detects enemies and repels flames and bullets is being used by theSASin the war against terror.
>Elite troops have dubbed the futuristic piece of kit the “Boba Fett helmet” after theStar Warsbounty hunter, who wore a very similar-looking one.
>But the real thing is even stranger than science fiction, air-conditioned to protect against heat and gases, and with a “friend or foe” device that picks up signals from other wearers.
>And if conditions are on the dark side, there is an “infra-red” setting using heat-seeking technology to help the crack troops pinpoint enemies.
>The helmet is equipped with a GPS system that can bring maps up on to the visor to help troops check positions.

all those systems, something will always not work.
Still worried about vision
>>34791791
that's pretty fucking rad if it works like advertised.
>literal fucking predator vision while air conditioned
>be me
>chechen surrounded by arab cannon fodder
>special forces clearing a large building
>split up to go room by room
>killing my buddies
>manage to kill one soldier and keep the rest of his buddies pinned until the helmet can be retrieved
>put helmet on
>know everywhere in the building the rest of the enemy squad is
>work with other chechens to kill them all
We don't need no sit awareness
We don't need unrestricted view
All that matters - looking badass
HEY! REALISM! LEAVE OUR LADS ALONE
Stupid shit will always be stupid shit
>>34792589
Why are anti-helmet fags always so butthurt
Ballistic face protection is actually getting to the point where it's genuinely practical and interrupts vision less than many gas masks

vision and awareness restriction of full face helmets is usually explained in sci-fi novels (republic commando novel , boba fett/clone trooper helmet ) by multiple cameras on the helmet add to the virtual reality visor to give normal or even enhanced vision through the lens.
That is totally cool. I think it could be feasible in a couple decades at most with todays tech.
>>34793812
I guess in the meantime you could just move your head side to side every now and then

I dont think that's even necessary. Its IIIA rated, a rifle round ought to go right through within 100 yards.

So I'm interested what you guys think, and kind of want to talk this through, we've come up with some stupid ideas and some great product ideas in the past so here goes.
Its easy to put a material on a dudes face/head that can take rounds, but the killer or what gets people out of the fight would be the energy dissipation, like how a basic light kevlar vest when shot leaves a huge bruise/goose egg on the person. I could see the biggest risk being something like what killed Dale Earnhardt.
So for a face mask or full head coverage, if we made it out of bullet proof/deflecting material, we would need some way/thing/doohickie where the shock is dissipated throughout the torso instead of just the head, like how Lineman in the NFL wore neck protectors. Could something be done with the chin to tie in the helmet to keep it from whipping when encountered with a blast or shot?
Whats a way we could create something like that while still allowing for full or near full range of motion?
>>34795190
We commando now boys
>forming up intensifies
Not even reading the thread, but I can't see why having a single individual in a group wearing a helmet like this and making his primary job organizing the group and updating them on info he can see would be that bad.
Maybe just take the helmet off when he needs to get gritty himself.
>>34797605
My nigga
>>34799329
It isn't ready yet. It will be good in the future though. Glanceable displays like Google Glass are gimmicks with all the usefulness of a smart watch. Full augmented reality is not ready for market yet - current available display like the HoloLens and F-35 helmet are large and low contrast. But when the optics for full AR HMDs evolve it'll be fucking nuts
>>34799039
>Could something be done with the chin to tie in the helmet to keep it from whipping when encountered with a blast or shot?
>Whats a way we could create something like that while still allowing for full or near full range of motion?
It has already been done, in Revision's exoskeleton prototype. A inverted Y-shaped spine extends from the armor and links to the top of the helmet, to take the weight off and stop it from whipping.
