Daily reminder that putting these on your gun is like strapping a spare bcg under the rail "just in case".
My spare BCG is in the buttstock though.

some competitions don't allow optics - having the BUIS means I don't have to rezero a carry handle every time I reconfigure for an irons-only match
>>34784712
Thanks Karl!
>>34784712
you do realize that a lot of people keep a spare bolt in their grip right?
>>34784712
I actually have a spare bolt head stored in my ar's pistol grip....
>>34784712
Storing a spare BCG in the AR pistol grip isn't uncommon though...
>>34784712
In the year 2017 only offset iron sights should be used. Try to argue this, pro tip: you can't.
>>34784792
>>34784758
It's not a very common thing, unlike BUIS.
>>34784712
for something that weight 3ozs I would say the backup is worth it.
>>34784845
>putting a huge snag point on your rifle that will be incredibly unwieldy to shoot in that awkward position for any realistic period of time
> QD mount to remove a broken optic and then using BUIS's normally and COMFORTABLY
Until every rifle comes with a decent quality red dot for the negligible price of regular irons, I'm gonna keep iron. I don't buy guns without mags, or cylinders or triggers, I'm not going to own or buy on without sights
>>34784857
>realistic period of time
15 seconds?
>>34784712
>using the red dot jew
Protip OP; Karl's opinions are terrible. Don't adhere to them.
>>34784712
It makes sense if you've got a reflector or holographic sight. If the battery runs out then flip up sights are a good fallback.
>>34784904
Most combat lasts 15 seconds. If you are actually fighting with your rifle, the only realistic place where this whole debate even matters, you will not be shooting for just 15 seconds
>>34784947
OP here. Who is Karl?
>>34784973
Karl Casada from InRange on jewtube.
>>34784964
Depends on what you consider combat. If you're talking time between locating the enemy and killing him it could very well be 15 seconds. If you're counting time from first shots to last shots between two discrete units then it's more like a couple minutes.
If we're talking time between deciding to go kill someone and everybody deciding to return home it's something like a couple hours.
>>34784712
The likely hood of your optic getting damaged to the point where its not usuable is way fucking higher than your bolt becoming unusuable.
>people get autistic over little bits of metal that weigh next to nothing, are unobtrusive, cost little, and offer a bomb proof ability to aim your weapon
OP is the same kind of faggot who thinks forward assist are useless.
>>34784845
the fuck's up with that gay paracord lacing?
>>34785642
Looks more like elastic cord. Still don't know why.
>>34784845
gay as fuck
>>34785887
Oh yeah, there's the little plastic doohickey for tightening it. I can't think why anyone would go to the trouble without a practical reason, it's not exactly aesthetic.
>>34784857
>> QD mount to remove a broken optic
>walk down teh street
>fucking haji turns around comer and sees me
>rise my gun
>oh shit, my optic is plastered with mud, didn't see that coming when we run over mud puddles/ my red dot is down
>wait a sec, mister Taliban, i will remove my optic real quick
Also it allows you use fixed power optic (acog)/above 1x minimum magnification optic and have much better method of short range engagement than BAD, or win precocious seconds not dialing power of variable scope to engage suddenly appearing close range target.
>snag point
Small thing comparing to all crap already hanging on the rifle (scope, light). But, yeah, there is some imperfection with current sights. More flush and compact sights mounted directly on 2 o'clock M-LOK rail position would be nice.
>>34785351
Lol, not really.
>>34786039
Yes it is
>>34784712
Yeah, if only a 2032 battery is as robust and reliable as my BCG.....
>>34786039
anon, I once lost a scope to a salted pretzel.
>>34786078
>>34786105
Your Bushnell and Barska shit doesn't count.
A bolt is a wear item. A Trijicon optic ain't.
>>34786120
It has magic crud-repellent force fields?
>>34785933

>>34786127
Since when does crud render an optic unusable?

Electric start in a car is cool, but I still want to be able to start the engine with a key if I want/need to, let alone be able to open the fucking door.
>>34784857
Is there something wrong with those hinged scope mounts with detents for retaining zero?
>>34786201
Around about the point where you can't see though it.
