i have a usm kabar and honestly it is a tough knife. but once you bang it and chip/snap it and it is beaten to shit, they might as well be a paperweight. i would go with a mora if you want something cheap and rugged. also, those fake chink striders on amazon are surprisingly overbuilt as well. if you want a tough heavy duty knife that will replace all your other knives, i would suggest looking at a hi or kh bowie knife/cleaver knife. those things are beasts.

It really depends on your intended use OP.
If you want a good outdoor knife, Morakniv companions are generally the go to option. If you want something for more of a defensive purpose, i'd say get something like a cold steel recon tanto or something. If you like the KABAR style the ontario version of them are entirely better and also cheaper in some cases.

All that is ontop of a good 3 inches of meat cleaver. It's a fighting knife made into a game knife.

If I were to design a bowie, I'd make it so it can split wood too.

Just an Idea but a hollow grind along the curved part with a 3/8ths swell and a relief cut would make a good rib splitter. Instead of twisting your hand so the bowie is horizontal with the rib, you just push forwards into the heart. the swell and the curve will push and break a rib as to not get "bonestuck"
