What would you consider the ideal PT test for basic combat infantrymen.

What would your test entail to separate all those suitable for the physical tasks of soldiering from those not suitable?

Marine CFT is pretty solid

Deadlift 300lbs for 5 reps
Squat 225 for 5 reps
As many Pullups as possible in one minute (at least 10)
As many push ups as possible in one minute (at least 30)
Stone to shoulder 5 reps each side (80lbs) or farmers walk
3 miles in 20 mins max or Cooper test
Ruck march

Borderline max/ PT stud for USMC

Some retarded fucking metrics there bro. Also 5 reps of anything isn't going to test endurance relative for combat.
>>
>>34766551
haha as in that's unreasonable or haha as in that's too easy? 6:20 mile run time isn't super unrealistic, but not everyone makes that. still a 80 something percent on current apfts for 2 miles higher if you're older

>the ideal PT test for basic combat infantrymen.

A grunt needs a combination of strength, speed, and endurance, and a PT test should reflect that requirement.

Mine would look like:
Event 1: 12 mile roadmarch with a 60 pound ruck in under 3 hours and 30 minutes
Event 2: Low obstacle course while carrying a basic load and individual weapon - a) negotiate 4 foot window obstacle b) conduct 15 foot rope climb b) negotiate 5 foot window obstacle c) conduct 200 pound litter drag d) negotiate 6 foot wall obstacle e) execute 10 chin ups
Event 3: Shuttle run for time starting from 10 meters out to 15 meters

Event 1 focuses on endurance, which a grunt needs on patrol, during movements, and during clearing operations in MOUT.

Event 2 focuses on the individual strength to weight ratio that a grunt needs to hump his kit, and to haul his ass around the environment.

Event 3 focuses on the speed a grunt needs to move from cover to cover while minimizing his exposure to enemy fire.

Minimum amount of equipment needed, and would weed out a lot of fuckers that shouldn't be on the g'damn line.

That's more of a "the front lines have come to our shores" sort of PT standard.

>>34766551
That's unrealistic for most people, even when in good shape. I'd say 24 minutes is a more realistic standard.

24 minutes in 3 miles is considered slow in regular infantry units. And it is not like we attract the best and the brightest out here.

From my civilian faggot point of view, that sounds like the kind of shit you'd have to do on the field.
>>
>>34770609
the army pt test is a good enough indicator of physical conditoin. yet you can get some PT studs with poor functional strength, because all they do is train to the test. while some low pt score troops will be really strong in functional strength.

a physical fitness test should judge you on field functional fitness.

7-mile run with rifle on varied grades of elevation
Get to range, put on gear. Carry a dummy.
1 and half minutes of continuous push-ups, no minimum number of reps, but soldier isn't allowed to rest and must do at least on complete rep every three seconds.
Move to next station, throw a dummy grenade at least 20 meters.
Next station, scale a wall
Finally, and if it's practical, a stress shoot with targets out to 100 meters. Shooter is given one 10-round magazine to hit at least seven targets.

Having exercises like deadlift/benchpress or squat as a fitness standard is retarded.

Everyone's bodies are different, you couldn't expect a guy who was 6'4 to out squat a stocky guy who was 5'6, but the tall guy would be much better suited to parachute jumps and tabbing(rucking).

The two key requirements for a soldier's fitness is his ability to sustain a slow pace for a long time, and to maintain a fast pace in intervals.

I'm not going to ever turn around to one of my blokes on PT and say he's a shitcunt because he can't deadlift fuck all because that doesn't he can't tab or do pressups or run for a long time.

This inclusion of non bodyweight exercises is just a projection of ego

So what happens when a 140 lbs person only has to deadlift or squat an amount that doesn't even equate an average person in full kit?

What does bodyweight lifts prove? Because its completely irrelevant if your buddy is 215lbs in kit and your bodyweight deadlift is 140lbs, no?

It's cute you think the infantry has it worse when carrying heavy loads. Watch a unit of combat Engineers build an MGB for time some time and you will know the definition of suck.

>ability to sustain a slow pace for a long time, and to maintain a fast pace in intervals.

You're forgetting the load factor, dude.

They've got to be able to do all that shit under loads ranging from a fighting load, to sustainment loads, to humping litters.

While I agree that gym shit, like the bench press, is pretty much worthless, and body weight exercises, like pull ups and rope climbs, are effective, there should be a load test as well that includes a 200 pound litter drag, at a minimum.
