Congrats /k/, you're in charge of building an army! Not one with guns though, that's a bit too easy.
No, you are gonna build a medieval army. You have control of a small country with roughly 15th and 16th century level technology. How do you plan to outfit them, organize them, and lead them?

I establish a competent personal guard, then hire mercs for everything else.
>>34760597
I arm them with arquebusses.
>>34760799
unironically this

>15th and 16th century
>no guns
kek
Infantry will be equipped with pikes and muskets, just like every other competent army at this time was. Artillery with cannons, as had been popular since the Hundred Years' War. Cavalry will be given swords as usual, but will also be given wheellock pistols, which would have been a cutting edge concept in the early 1500s.
>>34761079
>no archers
you gonna get wreckd, son.
>>34761079
15th century would have little gunpowder weapons, with it limited primarily to sieges
crossbowmen would be a fairly significant part of the army
A bunch of really muscular archers that use bows heavier than normal. Piles and shields with cavalry. Also a few ballistas. And just a dash of grenade throwers.
>>34761131
Pikes. damn auto correct.
>>34761079
>but will also be given wheellock pistols
RIP your treasury
>>34761131
longbows had a draw weight of 50 kg, doubt you'd be able to get enough archers to field with even heavier bows
>>34760597
I figure I can explain rifling pretty well, if I can get that working have some arquebus riflemen skirmishers, and for the rest achieve a motivated militia spearman group like most free cities had at the time. Its enough to wreck knights at lower costs than pike. maybe an artillery corps if I afford it
and of course mercs
>>34760597
Pikemen with one-handed swords as backups
Crossbowmen with pavises and short swords
Light cavalry with lances and sabres for flanking, scouting, skirmishing, and raiding
Heavy cavalry for punching holes through lines
>>34760597
Do what the Swiss did? With an elite company of cavalry to mop things up.
>>34761619
Think again...
Many of the longbows recovered from the wreck of the Tudor warship "Mary Rose" had draw weights in excess of 120lbs.
>>34760597
>Too easy
>No army using firearms has ever been efficiently organized
>>34760597
Like this.
>>34763787
>le "two pillum myth
>>34761635
>explain rifling
It's not a conceptual problem, it's more that precision machining is a bit of a cunt with C15 tech.
>>34761635
>I figure I can explain rifling pretty well,
Rifling was invented at the end of the 15th century, so need for that.
>Its enough to wreck knights at lower costs than pike
If you can pull a battle of the golden spurs or dithmarschen, sure. Unfortunately, those battles didn't become famous because they weren't business as usual. If you can't create a similar terrain advantage and make sure the battle happens there and then, you may find yourself with something looking far more like the battles of Visby or Patay instead.
>>34763164
Swiss success was to a large degree based on cultural and geographic factors, so unless you happen to be Switzerland, this may be difficult.
>>34760597
Depends on my neighbors, no point in fielding massive cavalry if everyone has huge pike formations.
>>34761603
This
>>34763787
Since I don't know dick about medieval warfare I'm just gonna give everyone bows and arrows and pretend they have guns.
Actually I'm gonna just pretend everyone is the modern equivalent to what ever I deem based on my shit tier opinion.
>suit of armor and a bow? You're a tank
>long bow? Artillery
>cross bow? DMR
>guy in a horse? I guess you can be Calvary
>da vinci glider and a bow? Fighter jet
I'll just use the tactics I learned in anime and I'm set
>>34763863
>>34763787
>>34760597
Massive army of pikemen and crossbowmen conscripts.
>>34763871
What is this from?
>>34764005
Some Legionwankery HBO special?
>>34761603
I'm just a defense minister though. Buying all this shit is the treasurers problem.
>>34764005
HBO show called Rome.
>>34764137
Have fun with
>filling out financing requests
>getting your budget approved
>justifying the cost for cavalry
>convincing treasury that a single wheel lock for one rider is better than 15 flintlocks for the same price
I'll invent compounding interest and Jew my way to victory. No army needed.

>not choosing to have jaguar warriors instead
