ACOGs are pretty fragile (apart from the X6s) and seen at least 6 break.

The SPECTER is a wonder though, beats Anything else hands down, best investment i've ever made.

Apparently the susat was ridiculously tough so squaddies started to treat the acog like a susat, which left many being broke.

It wasn't even three years according to TFB it was one year then they dropped the ACOG (after 20,000 units delivered)

Since then all ACOG 4x magnification scopes have been removed from service.

Also heard a rumour that said they didn't hold zero very well and that they used to glint with killflashes.

in general they were not very well received with exception to the x6

ACOG was indeed a piece of Shite, Our armourer said it was due to "quality control failure".

They lost zero from vibration of transit which only got worst when you fired it and required weekly shoots in order to keep the zero
They regularly leaked gas from vibration
The height scope did not coincide with barrel height ('80 tends to shoot high) and required a Z mount in order to rectify
Z mount would often break and bend
they didn't work well with our NV to the point we had to use separate sights.
ballistics didn't match radway green A2 which has a flatter traj than most SS109
they didn't seem to work well in fog or other watery places
Depth perception was off, same as SUSAT
Auxiliary reddot was a piece of shit that would break easily so they had to put protective wings on it
Eye relief (35mm) was better than SUSAT but worse than ELCAN which is 70mm
Field of view was about the same


The adjustable windage and elevation was handy though for when it went out of zero
Front glass rarely got scratched, but neither did spectre and neither does elcan
But yeah lots of them went U/S from simply being dropped or near an IED blast, some of our sniper platoon kept SUSAT and still use it

X6 variant is the dogs though, still doesn't like watery places though.

ELCAN is pretty good, even gun jebus has spoke about it

besides us brits prefer adjustable bases as opposed to fixed bases and adjustable optics, since the scope it mounted directly above the bolt it dampens the shock, and you're less likely to have an afghan run up to you and twist the nobs for shits and giggles just so that he could be wetted
