What sidearm would a modern (2017) cowboy carry?

What modern sidearms have a cowboy-ish feel to them?

Modern republican wouldn't buy foreign.

Would probably drop extra on a blue'd 1911

Good thing this is about cowboys and not 70yr old ranchers, farm boys and oil tycoons

Sig P250 and Beretta 1301.

Coyotes are more of a problem than humans so probably a mini-14 or some other sort of semi-auto 5.56 rifle

Glock 40 with a AR chambered in 10mm as their long arm.

They'd adapt, wanting significant firepower, but in the spirit of a cowbow, ammo cross compatibility.
>>
>>34749748
A Judge for snakes (the only practical use for one) and anything (e.g., hogs) that sneaks up on him.

A cheap AR or other truck gun (e.g., SU-16) in the truck in case he comes across hogs.

If he lives in Alaska, upgrade those to a .44 magnum and a full battle rifle (or even something more powerful, like a .300 magnum).
>>
>>34750126
90% of cowboys were black or Mexican.
>>
>>34750126
Republican != cowboy.

OP's talking literal cowboy, someone who works and drives cattle for a living.

In which case you are absolutely going to see, for pistols, lots of glocks and M&Ps and other perfectly functional but not overly expensive platforms.

Just like for trail platforms for dealing with pests you're going to see everything from beat to fuck old 870s to entry level ARs to SKSs to an entire range of bolt guns in an entire range of calibers, depending on whether they have to deal with coyote or boar more often.

Cowboy doesn't give too much of a damn about look. It needs to work, at a decent price, is what he cares about. All that shit had a function back in the day, it was as top of the line as they could reasonably get. but now that it's been romanticized, that function gets lost in the image.

Non fun answer=glock, because "it's a tool"

Fun answer= Medusa revolver because it can chamber almost any 9mm handguard cartridge.

Cowboys carried the best pistols of whatever time they lived in. In the early 1800s, that meant flintlocks. In the 1850s, they would have carried cap and ball revolvers. From the 1870s to early 1900s, they carried the Colt SAA. When the 1911 came out, they switched to that.

Of course, if you're a Brokeback Mountain cowboy, you can carry a Glock.
>>
>>34749748
Cowboy guns would need to have style for them. They should be on the longer side, so definitely full sized. They should be available in different finishes, since cowboys like style, they like stainless.

I think I'd like to see a cowboy with a Stainless Cz 75 or a FNP 45.

Maybe a stainless Beretta 92 would be nice. But anyone who recommends a cowboy carry a Glock is a faggot.
>>
>>34750126
A ton of Glocks are made in Smyrna, you dummy.
>>
>>34751606
Why do you think OP is talking about literal cowboys? No one gives a shit about actual cowboys, no one gives a shit about historical ranchhands.

Whenever someone says "cowboy" what they mean is a badass with a single action six shooter. Wyatt Earp, Doc Holliday, Bat Masterson, Johnny Ringo, guys like that, who had shit all to do with cows
>>
>>34749858
>remove tipi
>>
>>34752150
>Cowboys carried the best pistols of whatever time they lived in
No, most actual cowboys were poorfags. Merwin & Hulberts, Iver Johnsons, and a billion knockoff revolver manufacturers and so on were way more abundant than gucci shit like Remingtons and Colts.

Single Action army clone that you can load all six rounds safely.

Also it's in 357 magnum.

Kek! Hollyweird steered you wrong, son.
>>
>>34752271
Let me revise that. They carried the best pistols of the time they could afford. In most of what we think of as the cowboy era, that would have ideally meant the Colt SAA, which would have cost about a little less than a month's salary for a typical cowboy.
>>
>>34752271
Merwin and Hulbert revolvers were not poorly made knockoffs. They were well made for the time, and even had some advantages over Colts.

>>
>>34752271
Mervin&Hulbert was more gucci than Colt m8
>>
Glock 17 desu
>>
>>34752271
They would probably carried cartridge converisions, because you can use old cap and ball cylinders if you can't find rounds
>>
>>34751596

What kind of cowboys? Mexican Cowboys were nearly 100% Mexican.

American Cowboys were around 80% White, 20% Minority (To include Mexicans, blacks, native Americans, even some Chinese the closer you got to California)

How does gun paint/finish work? If it gets scratched can you sand and wax it like a scratch on car paint?
>>
>>34753841
Bluing is a type of rust that helps prevent the bad kind of rust. If it gets scratched off, you can reblue the steel, but you'll never get the original finish unless you polish with a very fine abrasive, like 2000 grit sandpaper or finer.

>>34753194
She looks so weird, but I want her.
>>
>>34752592
>>34752554
Merwin and Hulbert made shitty .32s and .38s too. Most companies did.
>>
>>34753866
I see, didn't know that about blueing

But 2000 isn't that fine of a grit though, I'd feel more comfortable with 3 or even 5k

just call it a pistol or handgun you massive autist
>>

Police trade in glock or s&w it is.
>Cheap
>Goodish
>Modernish
There is a reason why cartridge conversion colt 1860's and Remington 1858s were some of the most common guns in the West. They cost like 1/3 that of a single action army or Schofield. Just like you can get a S&W 5906, a modern double stack handgun, for $300-350 out the door with moderate holster wear.
>>
>>34751606
Hipoint it is
>>
>>34749748
I'm going with a lot of the below posts, police/military surplus across the board. Glocks, M&Ps, Beretta 92s, maybe some oddballs like Maks and such.

Anything around the 2-400 dollar mark that is reliable.
>>
>>34753883
it's mine nao but sadly it needs a new mainspring (it light strikes often)
(you me for timestamp picture)

oh and it's a subpar s&w .44 russian black powder gun, so it's holding a 12in group @30yds wich is kinda crappy compared to a real s&w russian or SAA from that day

The finer the better, when it comes to polishing guns. If you can get that 8000 grit mirror finish, the better for you.
