People say an AR pistol with a 7.5 barrel is not reliable due to the short gas tube and it's cycling. And that a 10 inch barrel is much more reliable.
How true is this?
Is the 300black out more reliable than 556 in a 7.5inch barrel?
Ps. Generals on /k/ are dumb

I feel like a spaceman ought to be equiped with a DOE Machine Gun.

I've got an 8" 5.56, works nice for me, no malfunctions yet. But I've only shot cheap shit and wolf gold out of it.

From what I have read the ballistics of 5.56 out of a sub 10" barrel are shit for your average 100 to 200 meter shooting. If you're talking close engagements of 25 to 50 meters I don't see it being a huge issue, especially if you're just fucking around at the range or in a personal defense situation. That being said this is /k/ so unless you're rocking a PEQ15, acog, sbr with a plate carrier and 1000 bucks of bullshit you'll get ridiculed.

I just replaced my 7.5" with a 10.5"
7.5" had a lot of issues cycling and I eventually got it to work decently with a YHM gas block and pig tail gas tube. The problem is hat pig tail gas tubes are weak and usually fail after 2000~ rounds. 5.56 also has shit velocity from 7.5" barrels. I'm much happier with my 10.5 and have had no issues so far.

The shortest 5.56 you should go and expect reasonable results at 200yds would be a 10.3'' AR15. If you want to go shorter, 300blk is pretty damn good from an 8'' barrel.
I personally have a 5.56 rifle with an 8.9'' barrel, but it's not an AR.
