Thinking about becoming a combat medic. What specific things should I study?
>>
medicine
you're not too bright are ya buddy
>>
>>34731138
gun shot wounds, tourniquets, how to insert ivs, how to keep cool headed.

Do medics call in cas vacs themselves or does a SNCO do it? I mean everyone should learn but who really does it?
>>
>>34731138
Get your paramedic, if you get that then you have a chance to be a combat medic.
>>
Worry about not breaking your fat ass in Basic Training and AIT.

Coursework is so fuckin easy you can pass it with 0 prior medical knowledge. Don't worry about being some high speed brainiac and skip EMT phase if you don't have EMT Basic at this point.

What you need to worry about is if you're going to show up at your first unit dicked up and unfit and can't run 2 miles within 15:54 with a shitty can't do attitude.

Talk to a fuckin recruiter time yesterday. 68W is a big ass MOS, if its unavailable tomorrow slots will open like your mom's legs within a month. There is a new training class starting about every 3~4 weeks with 300~400 turds.

Um i browse /fit/ im pretty sure i can pass
>>
>>34731230
no but seriously i'm already in good shape
>>
>>34731238
Then your next step is speaking with a recruiter and telling him you want 68W will not sign for anything else.

Take the asvab and get a GT score higher than 110. If I can do it hungover, fatigued and hungry you can do it too no fuckin excuses.

Talk to a recruiter in the morning.

How to cope mentally with doing everything you can to save a friends life only to hear they died in casevac.

Quit jumping the steps hero. You're not even in AIT yet. Study the Army song, general orders, soldier's creed, Army values. Basic Soldier's Blue Book shit.

>I don't see how pre-studying would hurt
>I don't see how
>I don't see
>I

NO ONE CARES ABOUT PRIVATE I. DO FLUTTERKICKS.
>>
>>34731138
>What specific things should I study
I bet basic anatomy (bones and blood vessels and all that stuff) wouldn't hurt. Also, I'd strike up an acquaintance with local paramedics and maybe firefighters and just ask them.
>>
>>34731138
>What specific things should I study?

Roadmarching with about 70 pounds of rucksack.

Too many "combat" medics want to be fat pieces of shit and work in an aid station handing out motrin rather than actually being on the line with the men, and then when it's time to hump a ruck, they fall the fuck out and their grunts have to give THEM the I.V..
>>
>>34731335
I want to distro this info now that its out there.

The I.V Instant Hydration meme must end here and now.

Drinking water rehydrates in average about 20 minutes quicklier than getting an IV. I am sick and motherfucking tired of troopers begging me to stick them because they're too dumb to drink fucking water or they want to snapchat a run of the mill direct line IV on the AC.
>>
>>34731297
prepare for the worst bla bla bla. Nothing wrong with being mentally fit and able to not internalize deaths etc.
>>
Maybe being a normal solider who knows basic medical training would be easier
>>
>>34731347
>Drinking water rehydrates in average about 20 minutes quicklier than getting an IV

That's the dumbest fucking thing I'll read on 4chan today.

Glad you're not my "medic".
>>
>>34731347
When drinking water, scientific studies have shown that it can take up to 2 hours to completely absorb 500ml of water. Furthermore, your body can only absorb about one liter of water an hour from your GI tract. So, if you are 3 or 4 liters dehydrated (which can easily happen during a hard night of drinking and possible vomiting,) it can take 6 to 7 hours to rehydrate via oral ingestion of water.

>quicklier

also, ELECTROLYTES, IT'S WHAT PLANTS CRAVE.
>>
>>34731373
Eat 12 dicks window licker. Your circulatory system is very greedy. Whatever fluids you introduce into it, the circulatory system will hold onto before it distributes it to your cells. Only when it determines its at capacity will the circulatory system deliver excess to your fluid depleted cells in your body. Drinking water on the other hand doesn't have to bypass the circulatory system checkpoint. This is of course falls under the typical run of the mill """""""dehydration""""""" scenario where Joe gets side stitches or feels warm because he sweat a little and failed to maintain proper hydration.

Tell me how to do my job.

Do you have boobs?
> A British hero medic says a fellow UK soldier who had just lost his legs to a bomb blast asked her to flash her breasts to help relieve his pain.
> Private Emily Tomkins refused, but saved his life, earning a bravery award for her heroics in Helmand, Afghanistan, the UK Sun reports.
> Tomkins, 21, initially gave the man a shot of morphine, but explained she could not risk giving any more despite his agony.
> Then he said: “Well do something useful and show me your boobs.”

No, she was a good sports, bongs aren't that crazy. I'm not sure he could have pulled it off with a female burger 68W though.

> A female Army medic comments on Gawker’s version of this story that this all too common for female medics.

> “Here’s the deal. I am an Army medic, and I have heard this kind of sh– so many times. I have had guys ask me to flash them, give them oral sex, have sex with them, so they ‘feel better’. It is the biggest bunch of bull—-. If it was one guy, badly wounded, who cracked a joke, I might give him a pass. But it’s so many of them, and it’s so often. I am highly trained. I am extremely good at my job. I love my job. I am here to save your miserable f—ing life. At least *pretend* like you see me as a fellow soldier, maybe even as a person, rather than a camouflaged fleshlight on legs.”
