I'd rather turn money into noise with a cheap expendable setup, than a more expensive rifle.

The govt profile you see on most other similarly priced rifles is a complete waste. It only offers about as much heat resistance as the pencil barrel, but weighs like 4oz more. All the weight is out toward the muzzle, where it offsets the balance the most, and absorbs the least amount of heat.

If I only had one rifle (and I'm assuming you'll only have one because the whole gist of my recommendation was to spend the rest of the money on other stuff, plates, carrier, cans, NVGS), it would be a 5.56

You certainly wouldn't go to just a single AR, even though I personally wouldn't consider that out of the question, so I recommended getting a SCAR16 so you have 5.56, and then with the leftover dosh get a bunch of gear basically. But like I said, different priorities.

I have seen it done, and after about 1k rounds we took out the barrel to inspect the "M4 Feedramps" and the surrounding anodizing and feed ramps themselves were pretty much untouched from visual inspection. I have seen other guns with marked up feedramps. I think it is dependent on lots of factors from mags to gas pressure to ammo etc. and worn anodizing isn't necessarily a reason to not do it

Looks good. Looks real good. Will look better outdoors with a horizontal orientation. Will look even better after you upgrade the scope mount, irons, and lose the hand stop. The hand stop is fucking up the tube lines of the ALG. Also needs a long flash hider. Right now the front end seems kinda sort relative to the full length stock. A2 is going to shoot smooth.
