ITT gun myths that just won't die

>an enemy soldier could hear the ping of a Garand clip over the 170 decibel blast of the rifle itself, notifying said enemy soldier that the American soldier had to reload

>>34713471
>you can't top off a garand clip
>you can't load a garand with anything less than a full clip
>the garands twisting bolt spins the cartridge in the chamber, breaking it free
>you will get garand thumb by loading a full clip
>you can't eject a partially full clip from the Garand

I don't know if it's fuddlore or actual lore at this point, but the myths about the garand are really annoying.

>the greatest battle implement ever devised
Oh fuck off with that. Technology has improved since then.

I think these myths come from vidya. Most devs didn't allow for partial Garand reloads in vidya for many years because they didn't want to make another animation for it.

The ping thing probably happened in a few isolated incidents. The ping is pretty loud but compared to a Browning machine gun and a few Thompsons and Garands going off at the same time it gets very questionable. Infantrymen don't stroll around alone all that often and a Garand ping means nothing if there are three guys with Thompsons right beside him to catch anyone who rushes the position in the face.

My AR genuinely has issues feeding the first round from a pmag loaded with 30 rounds. My AR feeds fine when a mag is loaded with 29 rounds. Explain pls

This was from an open bolt position but I'm aware of the problem you refer to.

Just tried it again and it misfed on the 3rd round.

I also have a pmag 40 rounder which I load up and haven't had issues with.

The only times I've had issues with my ar is when I load up 30 rounds and when I use tula steel case. Maybe if I load up 30 rounds with tula steel case, it'll fix itself

I believe there's documented examples of other guns having issues with fully loaded mags. The first one to come to mind is the sten

the US is not a signatory on anything regarding flame based weapons. or .50 cal. Also you can use ANY, ANY weapon to kill if its the only weapon you have available.

If your commander assigns you a damn bicycle pump, and you some how wrangle a hostile, and inflate him to death, well, it was your service weapon at the time.

According to Geneva Convention and Protocol III of the CCW Convention, incendiary are technically not forbidden:
>burn combatant and military object
>burn combatant and military object when its the only means and method at disposal
>burn combatant and military object when incendiary is the most effective means and method to fulfill military necessity without risking civilians
>burn combatant by a mean or method of warfare, which incendiary effect is not its primary purpose or way to inflict harm
Lawful means and method of warfare
>burn noncombatant
>burn protected civilian objects
>burn combatant when knowing civilian will also get burned anyway
>burn combatant when there is a more effective means and method that can accomplish military necessity in less painful way
>burn the environment vausing widespread destruction
Superfluous Injuries and Unecessary Suffering

wat. springs wear out due to use (compression and extension), not from being compressed or being extended.
>>
>>34714286
The bolt rotates a bit (around 30°) with the first quarter inch of travel with the op-rod. The army training videos regarding the operation of the action claims that with this motion, the extractor produces the "strong initial extraction", or turning the spent cartridge inside the chamber. Well, turns out, that's utter bullshit and that spinning actually occurs before the extractor even touches the rim of the cartridge.

First autoloading service rifle. In many respects, it was the most revolutionary battle implement ever devised. Sure, it's outclassed now, but frankly, the improvements the Garand's successors made over the Garand pale before the improvements the Garand made over it's forebears.

>>
>>34713870
it wasn't muh honor, it's that linear formations let you get the most lead into the air as quickly as possible. Thin your lines so you can envelop your enemies and unleash deadly enfilade fire. If you can't evelop anyway, thin your lines anyway as it lets you shit out the most lead at the enemy's line without shooting your own troops.
>>
>>34714949
>>34714964
First standard service rifle, as in, everyone had this as the base for going into combat. Sure, there were ones before, but not given to the average soldier.

>>34714957
Yeah, the Luger is a good pistol, but weapons design has moved on from that.
