What does /k/ think of small missile ships?

This is Russia's Project 22800 Karakurt Class Small Missile Ship, some call it a corvette but since it's only 800 tons and 67 meter length others call it a patrol boat.

It only has guns (1 x76mm and some CIWS and Kord with Pantsir on the next ships) and 8 UKSK for different kinds of missiles depending on the mission. It's shit but the best thing about this is that they're already earmarked the budget for 18 ships.

So basically it is 800 tons and has 8 missiles for a 2,500 mile range and cheap enough that even Russia can afford to spam. The cons is no AA except for CIWS, No towed sonar, no helicopter and a smaller gun compared to other ships.

Most would say you don't need much else for a patrol ship but wouldn't you want to put more in a patrol ship than some guns and some missiles?

Too lightly armored to be of any use in a shooting war, but to much shit on it if they just want to patrol littoral waters.

tfw the sheepz of a similar size were called destroyers back then, nowadays they aren't even considered corvettes

They're snipers. They carry 2,500km land attack or 1,000km antiship missiles. They get someone to spot for them, like a drone or something else, even a sub.

Like the one in Syria, the Buyan-Ms did not need to see their target in Syria when they launched from the Caspian Sea.Someone spotted for them.
>>
>>34710321
Decent support missile boat. Considering the state of Russian ship building industry, this ships looks like a nice and cheap stopgap. Can't really shit on it.
>>
>>34710500
It's as long as the German 7000 ton frigate.
>>
>>34710570
So, literally one small, cheap as fuck ship, God knows where, can sink multi-billion $ supercarrier. Awesome.

Or bomb some sandniggers in some kind of shithole, for the fraction of Tico`s price. Double awesome. I do like Russian engineering now.

>>
>>34712219
You'd need ten of them.
The upside is that even Russia can actually get ten of them at this price.
>>34712242
I fail to see how. Perfect fleet auxiliary, little more than a handful of floating VLS cells with a gun.
>>
>>34712258
Russia already order 18. Hope that will not be cut
>>
>>34712285
Eh, they're cheap enough to the point I don't see it being a concern. They should be able to get plenty of use out of them.
>>
>>34712234
Small displacement means it will be limited to calmer sea states, so it will be a Mediterranean and black sea only craft most likely.
>>
They are doing the smart thing.
Even though you can't compare budgets 1:1, Russia is a lot behind USA, and it's most obvious in naval matters. Their best hope is going asymmetrical. If I was them I wouldn't build anything displacing more than 10,000 tons.
>>
>>34710321
Karakurt is cute! CUTE!
But in all seriousness, aren't these basically just Iranian missile speedboats on steroids?
>>
>>34712311
I think some will go to baltic fleet too
>>
>>34710321

to be honest those ships are what germany navy is dreaming about since 1998.

the ship is very interesting because it can hit hard and hide in shallows waters. it can operate in 70% of russian rivers and can cover with satelite support around 3-6 thosand killometers radius with own weaponry. those ships can can be used to defense the shores and as a wolf hunting pack thanks to the newest radar and it-networks.

vatniks piss me off when they think their country's worth anything other than their zerg military and nuclear stockpile

If I recall, they said it might go on Sea State 6. They built it as an upgrade to the Buyans that are basically river boats and cannot into white waters.
>>
>>34712237
>>34712258
Ten of them still cost less than a single supercarrier. Maybe 1/10th of the carrier price, airgroup and carrier group not included. Fuck, I love those little bastards allready.

Wait... Isn`t that the one with solid composite hull?!

Japanese 27000 ton destroyer is slightly longer.
>>
>>34710471
Modern ships don't survive by being armored, they survive by not being hit.
>>
>>34710511
I guessed armored was the wrong word to use.

>>34710570
Yeah, but in order to use those missiles effectively, they'll have to close range. If you fire at max range, by the time the missiles reach the target location the ships the fired at will have been long gone.

>Someone spotted for them.
Much harder to due when fighting against a carrier and escorts, especially if they can fight back and have greater mobility.
>>
>>34710321
I suppose if your goal is to fire on Syria from the Caspian sea, that boat will work.
>>
>>34710321
>The cons is no AA except for CIWS, No towed sonar, no helicopter and a smaller gun compared to other ships.

I do not understand the purpose of this vessel then. It's too large to be a missile boat, it's too small to do AA duties, it's not equipped for anti-sub work while not having the range to really forward deploy itself and it lacks the facilities for policing.
>>
>>34714851
I thought it's pretty obvious what they're for? Very cheap long range missile platforms. Russia seems to be realizing they need to build asymmetrically to have a navy that can fight western navies.
>>
>>34712758
You have some serious inferiority complexes anon, never had caviar before?
>>
>>34712758
>thats probably the only time they were able to eat that food ever
you can buy caviar relatively cheap on the far east of russia so if they are from there or have a relative there (and it's most likely the case) they certainly ate it before and after lol. and even if not, canned caviar is expensive but available, not in those quantities though

>the money they could have spent on healthcare
healthcare in russia is generally free for most of the stuff (albeit you sometimes should wait for an appointment) and overall way more cheap than in the usa, you don't need to pay a large part of your salary every month for an insurance to avoid a possible bankruptcy (but then, your employer pays for you since russia uses a mandatory healthcare insurance system, but not that much). it's generally common for europe btw
>>
>>34715671
>healthcare in russia is generally free for most of the stuff (albeit you sometimes should wait for an appointment) and overall way more cheap than in the usa
As a norwegian I was pretty surprised at how efficent the healthcare is. Ate some bad eggs and suffered acute food poisoning, an ambulance was on the spot in 5-10 minutes and the service was good (and free).
Back home you'd just have to deal with it, or drive to the emergency yourself and hope you dont have to wait for two hours.

The offices where you register your visa and all the bureaucracy related to it was terrible though, always filled to the brim with central asians and no respect for queues or appointments, had to force your way in because people gave zero fucks.
>>
>>34715853

Russian here. If anything our ambulance system is too generous. You can call an ambulance for any reason, however minor. So old people often abuse the system, calling an ambulance basically because they are bored and have anxiety or have a bit high blood pressure. And it's all free of course.
>>
>>34715919
Well, we don't want our babushkas to be lonely right? It's one of the few social institutions I think russians deserve credit for, it's better than in most of Europe.

Wealthy oil-nation Norway can't even afford to keep hospitals running, they are closing down in droves and the coverage up north is in many regions quite literally non-existant (I guess that also goes for many of the less developed areas of Russia, but still).
>>
>>34715853
frankly the response times can be very different depending on the city/part of the city and other stuff

me and my coworkers were lectured recently by a social worker how people in russia generally still don't understand how the social insurance work and how their feedback could affect among the other things the amount of ambulance cars etc

russian healthcare has a lot of problems anyway but it is not completely bad
>>
>>34710321
how about them skjold class, coastal corvettes?
>>
>>34716055
My experience was in a small town about halfway between Tula and Ryjazan, somewhat rural but not too far from the large central cities, about 2 hours by train.

The ambulance service here is just plain bad, they are understaffed and strained, they simply wont come unless you're in a lifethreatening situation.

>>34716077
Pretty decent, big props for being one of the few ships we produce domestically instead of importing from Poland/Spain.
>>
>US military firms canceling the FFG(X)/LCS project and dumping the funding into laser based PD R&D increases

>>34712758
Red caviar is way cheaper in russia and japan because it's a common foodstuff to them and not considered a luxury.

It used to be that way in the pacific northwestern US/canada and alaska but it's pricy these days because most goes overseas because of greater demand
