>20 cans of beans

Damn, this nigga gonna live like a king after SHTF. He gonna be like Lord Humongous commanding armies n shit with his twink slave boy all because he controls those sweet sweet beans.

For real though, cans are fine if you're bugging in post SHTF like living inna bunker or something, but they're shit for trying to stay mobile. They're heavy and bulky. Freeze dried food is the ideal bug out food. Takes up minimal space and weighs practically nothing.
>>
There will be no more pills, no more bad food, no more destroyers of my body. From now on will be total organizization.
>>
Canned beans are kind of shit. They're expensive and take up a lot of space. A much better choice is dry beans in mylar bags.
>>
>>34706437
Trying to cook dry beans during SHTF would be a pain on the ass though. You have to either soak them the day before or boil them for hours for them to be edible. Hard to do that on the move.

True if you're hiking or space is an issue, but you have nigh-unlimited time for food prep.

Canned beans are immediately ready to serve, our five minutes away with stone heat added. They have their liquid already there, no acquiring/purifying/soaking/cooking required. Good caloric density and nutrition at the ready. Expiration in the three to five year range. Dry bags have a little edge if you can maintain a cool, dark, dry environment (but for some reason aren't in enough of an apocalyptic situation to actually eat the fuckers for that long).

Biggest reason dried bags have an advantage is the possibility of use as seed. Other than that, put some canned beans in your pantry and rotate them out once a year.

Have a huge fucking beanie weenie roast on New year's day and then shop for more. Make it a prepper tradition.
>>
>>34706528
This

Last year I got a hundred acres in the mountains a few miles down a forestry road off a secondary road. Somewhere that people can't "accidently" come across it.

Recently finished a 1000 sq ft cabin, heated with a wood stove, dropped in a septic and a well. While I was at it I dug a cellar that I'll stick with long term non perishables.

Only people who know how to get to it are me and my wife. We already live out in the country but if SHTF all those Seattle fucks will just come flooding out of the city.
>>
>>34706437
Really anon. Just go to your local Wally World and buy "mylar wrapped prepper beans"...if you can find them. They're guaranteed to last twice as long and only cost $40 per pound. Don't forget all the water purification products for reconstitution, though!

Similar to what people have said. I run a fairly successful business so I have plenty of spare cash (that which I havent already saved and invested). Own a decent sized cabin in the mountains, woodland on all sides and cleared enough space to grow food. Water source to provide clean water and a source of energy. Have a number of solar panels, wind turbines and use the water channels for electricity. Can run the cabin like a normal house pretty much. Obv no tumble dryer etc or microwave but who cares. Enough woodland to provide sustainable heat till the end of time. Wild game all around for meats, enough food stored for 10 years and large water tanks for a reserve. Bodily waste goes into a compost heap and water is largely recycled. It's fully off grid and has a decent weapon stockpile.

Feels good Bros.

Truthfully I've worked with meats from nearly every fast food chain. *SPOILERS* it's all unsanitary meat salad that gets nibbled on by Mexicans all day.

He's probably saying it because the vast majority of wells aren't exactly an open fucking pit with water at the bottom. The well at my house is 1500 feet deep and its free flowing, you're not exactly going to drop a squirrel down a three inch pipe a quarter of a mile deep.
Hell even my neighbors unused artesian well has a concrete cap on it and a hand pump at the top, it would take four or five men to remove that cap. Unless you thought every single well is just a quaint little open well some 50 feet deep?

that 5 year shelf life is probably conservatively based on the assumption that they are going to be on a boat for 5 years, at high temperatures. the nutritional value will slowly begin to drop at some point after that, then worst case scenario they go rancid.

Ok, I used to live in a house that drew from a well. This isn't a 1800s English story about a rabbit and a farmer, well with a bucket or something.
A well today is a thin underground pipe that reaches the running water deep in the earth. Nothing gets in. Only water gets out from an electrical pump. Even if you smashed the reservoir, that would just destroy their momentary supply. Thats the same as regular vandalism and it wouldn't contaminate the water. Now leave.

All i remember was a top class hunter who read scholarly. He got bored of hunting animals because he said even the most clever animals couldn't reason. He used crashed sailors on 'Trap Ship' island as prey. Then, the main character, another world class hunter falls into his clutches and an interesting hunter-hunted story unfolds. The main character manages to kill his servants with traps and swims/circles back to the hunter's mansion. Good short story, might recommend a read.

Don't see anything about a steak. Here's the last bit of the story:

General Zaroff had an exceedingly good dinner in his great paneled dining hall that evening. With it he had a
bottle of Pol Roger and half a bottle of Chambertin. Two slight annoyances kept him from perfect
enjoyment. One was the thought that it would be difficult to replace Ivan; the other was that his quarry had
escaped him; of course, the American hadn't played the game--so thought the general as he tasted his afterdinner
liqueur. In his library he read, to soothe himself, from the works of Marcus Aurelius. At ten he went
up to his bedroom. He was deliciously tired, he said to himself, as he locked himself in. There was a little
moonlight, so, before turning on his light, he went to the window and looked down at the courtyard. He
could see the great hounds, and he called, "Better luck another time," to them. Then he switched on the light.
A man, who had been hiding in the curtains of the bed, was standing there.
"Rainsford!" screamed the general. "How in God's name did you get here?"
"Swam," said Rainsford. "I found it quicker than walking through the jungle."
The general sucked in his breath and smiled. "I congratulate you," he said. "You have won the game."
Rainsford did not smile. "I am still a beast at bay," he said, in a low, hoarse voice. "Get ready, General
Zaroff."
The general made one of his deepest bows. "I see," he said. "Splendid! One of us is to furnish a repast for the
hounds. The other will sleep in this very excellent bed. On guard, Rainsford." . . .
He had never slept in a better bed, Rainsford decided.

Canned tuna packed in oil: You can punch a hole in the lid with a nail, push thick cotton twine into the hole, and it will burn like a candle. I got a small can to burn about 4 hours with a little can shaking, fussing, and wick trimming. I'm going to try one of the big cans, if I remember, next time I'm at the store.

Of course, you have to eat the tuna within 6-8 hours after the flame goes out.

I found that dude's channel a few days ago, and holy shit it has been the best thing ever. He goes all out... he'll eat literally anything that won't kill him. And will even sample and review the included cigarettes. Only thing I haven't seen him try yet is Kraut amphetamines.

He's also super descriptive and collaborative when reviewing, all while being very positive. Not sure if I'm exposing myself as a newfag cuz y'all know about him already, but damn you guys need to watch his stuff. It's autism approved content.

Dude is literally the bob ross of military food.

Both me and the wife work for the state and with the feds in emergency management and disaster response, and our knowledge led us to get this set up. Western WA (I-5 corridor) is FUCKED in the event of a major natural disaster. Like it's going to be Katrina on crack, because so many of the logistics and supplies the govenment response relies on are staged inside the disaster area. A lot of the people I work with have made conscious decisions to live well outside urban areas and a lot of bug out plans.

That plus I truly believe we'll see civil unrest with the next decade or two.

To everyone but us it's a hunting cabin/weekend getaway spot/retirement home.

Sure. Because whatever you have to offer obviously can compete with the product of nearly two centuries of selective breeding. There's a reason there are Mormon jokes about "White Wards" and "All the other Wards". If your family isn't already connected to the Quorum at some level, seek out some of the youthful suited gentlemen who are fond of bicycles and get involved posthaste because if your SHTF options seriously involve on seeking assistance from the Mormons on any level, you don't want to be a Johnny-come-lately at the exact moment all the Bishophric across the world are opening their Article 44 orders.

And to contribute to the thread, The best SHTF food isn't gonna be found in one package. Learn about food and nutrition in general, throw different food down your eating-hole and see how your body responds, learn about food-storage and build a decent pantry. Or have a good enough job to lay in a pallet's worth of food/water you can forget about until they're needed. Around 3k is a good budget per person/pallet if you want enough variation to be pleasant and not hate yourself for only getting iron rations to survive on.

You guys do understand that any SHTF situation will last less than a year at the very latest and any "unrest" can't possibly last more than a month, right? The best course of action is to evacuate during the initial actual evacuation, before the refuge system is set up so you don't get stuck somewhere, and get to relatives in another state and just try to find some part time work to help cover the expense of shacking your ass up.

Chef Boyardee ravioli and beef macaroni. Box mac and cheese with cream of mushroom, tuna, and freeze dried veggies. Canned bread. Decent quality (ie in a jar) kimchee or sauerkraut, or other pickled veggies (not as healthy as fresh, but it lasts longer once opened). Dried beans or lentils, rice, bouillon, and dried mushrooms. Dried, salted fish (oddly expensive in the states), soaked and sautéed with cattail roots and shoots over egg noodles (soaked jerky works, too). Hominy grits (or any kind of grain/seed gruel, really. Humans have survived on this stuff for a long, long time. Add some dried fruit or foraged/dried onions, garlic, and other aromatics to mix things up). Oatmeal. Ramen, canned/freeze dried veggies (or just dried), and canned chicken or tuna. Red Delicious apples taste like shit, but they are engineered to last. Keep them cool and dry and they'll dry out instead of rotting.

Anyway onto a question. Let's say shit did hit the fan and society collapsed. Obviously next to ammo, canned food would be the currency of the land. Let's say I have a crate of spam and corned beef. What would you give me for a can? Would it be a case by case basis when it comes to bartering?

a relatively lot of ammunition (couple of boxes of 5.56 or 9mm) if agriculture and some kind of moderately stable economy picked up. food is food. I could see that if it was stable enough for people to not immediately snipe any other person and most of the great unwashed had already ran out of water and died that food would be traded for other food on a calorie by calorie basis with a premium to taste, fat content, and protien content.

IE beef jerky would be worth more than it's calorie content in rice, aquatic survival rations, or soylent food powder. but by calorie, weight, or volume the "cheaper" option would have more longevity and calories per weight. Idiots would trade a twinkie, space brownie, or bag of chips for well over the calorie/fat/protein content of boring survival foods like black beans and rice. Pushed far enough and given a stable but bland food source (like the literal metric fucking ton of white rice you can buy for ~$600) addictive junk food, processed meat, candy, chocolate, etc. would be worth a fuckload more than it's calorie content as a pre SHTF limited resource.

Besides ammo, vices are probably the best way to get food in trade
>porn
>tobacco of any kind
"pipe tobacco" that avoids the cigarette tobacco tax, rolling papers, rollers, etc. is probably a good idea to keep around versus store bought cigs. obscenely cheaper. also real pipe tobacco

one thing I've never seen mentioned is
>how do you wipe your ass without toilet paper
>hurr just buy 10 years of toilet paper
the answer is a thick cloth rag that you bleach regularly
A shitload of bleach for cleaning and disinfecting clothing/shit tickets/diapers/bandages is much more volume and weight condensed than stocking up on disposable luxuries like band aids and 1ply prison toilet paper.

This entire exchange made me laugh so hard because I know that there's a retard out there who had the foresight to plan for the happening but this was his plan.

Literal retards happened. Also czeched digits, doubles bracketed by doubles are my favorite.

Drop a can of tuna into your ramen for a very easy meal that is filling after a hard day's work.

I haven't seen chicken mushroom ramen in years; I wish they'd bring it back.

Finally, I can vouch for the Shin; it's so much more expensive (not necessarily $1, but often ~$.80), but it's really good.

I'm from the midwest too and that pic pisses me off. That mac'n'cheese to corn ratio is fucking retarded.

>What would you give me for a can? Would it be a case by case basis when it comes to bartering?

Barter is always case by case. I would offer 5 rounds of .22 or 3 of any centerfire ammo for a can. Or 2 large zucchini. I make soap, I would consider letting a bar go for a half dozen cans.

The Maruchan yakisoba is pretty good too, I really like the teriyaki beef flavor. It doesn't grate on me like regular ramen and I gladly eat it for lunch at work.

I'm sorry, I didn't know MREs go bad in a day if you take them out of the freezer.
You moron.
You put the MREs in the freezer because they'll last twenty fucking years like that. When SHTF you leave them in until the power fucks off and then you get five years that they're guaranteed to be good for.

You should look into what farmers etc used to store for the winter.

>Britbong, how fucked are you in a SHTF scenario?
He'd be thoroughly fucked.

Even if the UK devoted the entirety of their landmass to agriculture (bulldozing all the buildings), and somehow managed to get the same kind of yields per acre as the American Midwest (literally impossible), they still wouldn't be able to feed half their population.

>Best way to bug out is to bug in
This, get where you want to be before SHTF or immediately after and bunker down. Knowing how to hunt, tan leather, grow food, and purify water is the only real way to survive. City fags don't stand a chance.

Stateside flip here. I've never not had a 25lb bag of Jasmine rice somewhere in my house.

That + spam/vienna sausages: I can live happily for months. Would probably need some of those "one-a-day" vitamins so I don't die of scurvy tho...

Arizona flip (formerly of Illinois/Iowa). I know how you feel with the never not rice in the house. Especially if it's that Three Ladies Jasmine rice. Goes well with cooked spam, vienna sausages. Hell, scrambled eggs with tuna and onions. I'm beginning to think our culture's casual everyday food is ration based XD

A true Filipino prepper would have cases of Ligo sardines. In the STHF world, sardines will be more rare than finding certain caliber cartridges like 303 British.
