Hey, /k/. I'm new here, so stop me if I'm doing something wrong.

I've been considering purchasing my first gun. A solid, reliable, .45 is what I had in mind.

I've shot two different M1911s and they had the loveliest feel of any handgun I've fired before, sort of a heavy extension of your own hand. I don't like hammerless guns. Having the option of a .22 conversion kit is also something I've been toying with.

My budget it about $650-1k. Anyone have any suggestions?

Cimarron 1911. I got one and it's been really good to me. Tolerances and machine work are astounding for the price. Their picture doesn't show how well they do their their polished blue finish. It's also colt parts compliant if you're into that sort of thing.

>colt parts compliant
Nearly every full size 1911 has interchangeable parts with Colt.
>>
>>34696366
It's hard to be sarcastic with text, but regardless, I'd hate to get one that wasn't.

Get an RIA Tac II.
Reasonable upgrades while colt part compliant. Especially for the money.

there's a guy selling a remington 1911 R1 near me for $400 with a couple holsters, 6 mags and some ammo. I don't own a 1911 but I've shot a few different ones a lot and I like them. I know this is a decent deal but is it a "jump on it right now" deal?
>>
>>34696122
Any full size 1911 that is NOT series 80 will do. Armscor makes some good, cheep 1911s sold under several different brands. Ruger makes a good one too. Also, try to avoid full length guide rods, as they make it a pain in the ass to disassemble.
>>
>>34696520
No, Remington is a shitty brand. Their 1911s are series 80.

Thankfully RIA full length guide rods are easily converted to a gi rod and bushing
>>
>>34696122
I mean, why not a Colt?
>>
>>34696520
The R1 is solid. They all come with a match bushing which can make them somewhat annoying to disassemble, but it shouldn't be a deal breaker for most people.

whatever you do make sure its a 1911
>>
Thanks a lot for the suggestions, fellas. I'm gonna do some research, consult with my brother, and maybe head into this little shop in town and figure something out.

Much appreciated.
>>
Not OP but turning 21 in a few months. I think I've narrowed down my choices but always appreciate input since I'm the only one that shoots in my family.

Budget: $1k at most
>Colt Defender (45)
>Sig P938
>CZ Rami
>Ruger GP100 (357)
>Bersa Thunder or Makarov (Because I'd like to get a Vz.61 eventually)

I'm leaning towards the Colt, because I like .45 and the aesthetic, which the Sig also has.

Depending on your area you might be able to just barely squeak into a Springfield Armory 1911 for that price range, Anon.
I owned and shot one for years, and it was a fine gun. I added Hogue wraparound grips to it, and my hands liked an arched mainspring housing better than a flat one, so you'll want to check the feel and point of both arched and flat before you commit.
Once you get one, get the Hogue grips. You'll thank me later.

Hey, editing my post because I'm a huge faggot.
If your budget goes up to $1k, then you can skip the Springfield Armory and go straight for a Colt Government Model. That's the one I upgraded to from my Springfield, and believe me, I notice the difference!
Same advice on the mainspring housings and Hogue grips apply.
Potato picture very much related.

coonan makes a 1911 chambered in 357 magnum. I want one but i cant speak for its reliability or accuracy.
>>
>>34696520
I have an R1 Enhanced, I like it a lot. Factory fiber optic front sight, match trigger, VZ grips and $100 rebate. Hard to complain
>>
>>34696122
For all things considered and because I'm a massive fanboy, I want to point you in the beretta direction. Unless your set with a .45, the beretta is a nice beautiful full sized all metal gun in double action and single action. There are .22 conversion kits and you just can't beat that 15 or 17 round capacity with extended mags both aftermarket and directly from beretta available. I own a 92a1 and I absolutely love it with all my heart.
>>
>>34700792
why would you post this? on top of that, why wouldn't you even mention the px4 in 45?
>>
Ruger SR1911 is great if you are right handed. Just buy one, a bunch of Wilson Combat 47D Magazines, and a couple hundred rounds of ammo. Enjoy Ruger's god tier repair services if you ever have a problem, but you most likely won't.

>>
>>34696122
Colt 1991 is a nice gun, you could probably get one for around 650-700. Decent 3-dot sights, flat mainspring housing, long trigger and a big enough beavertail that you don't get hammer bite.

Series 80 but whatever, I've never had a problem with or without a firing pin block in 1911s

Also read up on a lot of the other articles by the 1911tuner. Get the correct magazines. Make sure you are using a GI guide rod. It's a workhorse that absolutely will work if you don't hobble it.

ever shot a FNX-45?

Colt, Ruger, Remington, Springfield, Sig. They are all good entry level 1911s. If this i your first gun then you don't know enough to notice the difference between series 70 and 80 nor appreciate anything higher end, so don't worry about that. Might want to get a stainless steel one, though.
>>
I recommend a Colt.
They are not flawless, but none of the production 1911 brands are.
You could buy a RIA and shoot it until you want something a bit better, something worth doing upgrades to so you sell it for a loss and buy a Springer/Kimber/Ruger. Then you start to notice some annoying quirks and non standard items on the Springer/Kimber/Ruger and want something a bit different so you again sell at a loss and buy a Colt and now you are happy because you finally have a real 1911.
Don't forget that the the "C" in ACP stands for Colt.
>>
Springfield XD Mod 2

Not a terrible price, durable. Decent trigger, 9+1 or 13+1 extended capacity, very accurate, compact version is feasibly concealed carry territory

Lmao, get something actually decent like a CZ-75 in 9mm. A cartridge that is far superior to .45
>>
>>34711246
>9mm. A cartridge that is far superior to .45
Yeah, in ballistic gel. In mediums that actually simulate human tissue and bone 9mm is inferior.

You know why 9mm fags need so many rounds? Because it takes that many to ensure they get adequate penetration and get a round that doesn't skip off ribs.
>>
>>34711246
cz also has a 45

1911s are very enjoyable shooting guns, but it is not very practical compared to guns of now a days.
>>
>>34702774
W..what movie I will tune in solely for the 1911 porn.
>>
>>34699669
What the hell did RIA do now? Also for the same price you can get a Springfield Mil-Spec, why even get some flip shit when you can get something made in America by a company that will defend your rights.
>>
>>34700749
as cool as the Coonan .357 mag is, you can upgrade a .45 to handle .45 super or 450SMC and get comparable results. Or go full retard and get a gun configured to handle 460 Rowland reliably.
