Edward Tinker's books? I have the first 3 volumes. They're interesting books. Of course, they're just stories so not everything will be 100% accurate.

There is more than just that. I remember one story of a vet picking up a Dutch Luger he found off of a dead Japanese officer. The finger was just a bone by the time he found him and when he grabbed it it took the finger with it and he brought it home too.
