He didn't post a picture of the Colt Patterson. And if you want to get nitpicky about "practical" and "mass-produced", the 1848 Dragoon should cover it. The 1851 is not an innovative design in any way, since it's literally unironically just a scaled down 1848.

Is that your pre-B?

I fuckin' love mine. Torn about whether I should reblue it. Yours has a pretty nice finish for its age, and those grips are great.

Thanks! Honestly I think yours looks great already. Something just looks great about the weathered look of old service pistols that I'd probably cry if you had yours refinished, but hey it's your gun

I picked up those CZ75 grips from Grips4U.net for $59, so they're pretty decently priced for brand new wood grips

Also, I can confirm that now is the time to get a steel frame Smith, my 645 was $265 out the door of Gander Mountain in fucking excellent condition.

The trigger isn't the best but the reset is great, and it's ridiculously reliable. You can hand cycle empty cases all day.

>all the handguns I own are old hunks of steel that are either awful to carry or unreliable

I'm finally looking for carry guns. I'll probably get a S&W chief's special or Makarov because I just can't do plastic guns.

I'm with you there, I'm a sucker for patina, and I really like not having to worry about fucking up the finish. It's just that this is a factory blued gun, and the bluing that isn't messed up is so deep and nice looking that I can't help but wonder what'd it look like all cleaned up.

At any rate, I need to have my S&W Victory Model refinished before anything else, so nothing is happening any time soon.

I bought some Pachmayr grips off Amazon the other day. They're a bit of an improvement over the heavily abused factory grips but I'm starting to think it might be worth it to spring for a nice set like you have.

Any idea of a good vendor?

I have one that's 1910's vintage and I shoot it. There really aren't that many Chinese replicas out there, compared to the real Mausers.

Hope I'm not too much of a shill now, but I've gotten pretty much all of my grips from Grips4U. They're all sub-$100 so they won't break the bank like Nills would and they seem pretty quality

I prefer the Walther P38 over the Luger P08.

I don't think it's coco bolo, they were only like $20. They're pretty slim though, and they feel nice. I think the raw finish of the Grips4U stuff will look nicer with the worn metal. Seems to look pretty good with your stuff. I wish I could find some wood grips for my MAB.

Are all those pictures of your handguns? If so you have supreme patrician taste and I'd love to see a group shot.

Dat MAB is sex. I might pick one up one day too.

Surprised they don't have any MAB grips. Maybe send them an email and they'll get to it considering their repertoire

Also thanks! I was hoping to get my Savage 1907 slide back from a friend before taking a new picture. He was supposed to fabricate me a new front sight since that flew away on our last shooting session, but here you go lol

I have a S&W 910, which is very similar but stripped down version of 5906. The trigger on the 910 is quite good, both double and single action.
