I've shared with you once before, but I'll share again in an effort to spread awareness in your ammo purchases.
Basically, the premise to this thread is what happens when you push cheap plated FMJ in certain calibers to full performance, SAAMI safe though, into gel and nothing more.
Notice how thin platings can't handle maximum spec'd loads, true jacketed performs much better.
One of these lost a chunk.
Notice the deformation. Structural failure, the soft lead still smooshed underneath
The .45 Colt did really well actually, at a bumbling 950fps.
45 Colt doesn't need +P to penetrate a shit ton
Here's a brass jacketed bullet. Excellent strength using a strong jacket. Penetrated more than the plated of the same weight.

Hey I have a kinda related question.
I do alot of reload and wanted to get in to casting my own bullets for price savings.
What are the advantages of traditional lead casting and poly coating oven baking?
Im looking at reloading 9mm, 45 acp and 357/38 special.
Did you jam these up your butt or what? Im confused.
