I'm 45 and grew upo shooting 22s and 12 bores with no hearing protection, I then went through mil using peltors and spent months firing CF without any ear protection at all. I subsequently went on to fire hundreds of thousands of rounds without hearing protection (although many were silences subsonics, black powder etc)

My hearing is literally perfect. My eyesight is beginning to go. Now much of that was dumb and I would always use plugs and peltors now.

Never ever use headphones for music.

I'd imagine 9 times out of 10, even if your earpro is right next to your gun, your adrenaline is going to be flowing, you were just awoken from a dead sleep, your not going to take them time to put them on.
