I always thought the idea was that the drum feeds into a more traditional tube mag under the handguard. Like there could be some kind of protrusion on the gas piston that shoves a round out of the drum into a tube where the wooden handguard is, and also operates the action (bolt, elevator, hammer, etc). So there'd be rounds in the drum, a round or two in the tube, and a round waiting on the elevator. The rounds in the tube wouldn't be under tension by a follower or anything, but would be shoved back one by one as the gas piston cycled.

It's possible just stupidly over-complex compared to something like the Pancor Jackhammer.

Obligatory

>The SLAM as proposed would carry a payload of many nuclear weapons to be dropped on multiple targets, making the cruise missile into an unmanned bomber. After delivering all its warheads, the missile could then spend weeks flying over populated areas at low altitudes, causing tremendous ground damage with its shock wave. When it finally lost enough power to fly, and crash-landed, the engine would have a good chance of spewing deadly radiation for months to come.

Orks in this setting can literally manipulate reality with the power of unconscious thought. As in, they paint all their vehicles red because they think that it makes them go faster, and it does. Conclusion is that this is as awkward as fuck to use in non-combat situations. The weapon is shaped and sized like a submachine gun, but has to be used with either a sling or held in one hand during patrols. 2/5, looks good but impractical. Not sure where the clip is. Dust will get into the holes which seem to have no purpose.

They do.

The a 10 can apparently stall if it fired too long.

Also I'm in middle of aeronautics program, and once an instructor told me to get to a slowish speed and he stuck his arm out the window and in the light plane it caused the turn and slip indicator to register the offset plane.

Any offset forces on an aircraft will cause tork. It's one of the reasons guns are mounted symmetrically and closer to the center of mass, it's better to slow down than to yaw.

A one man crew is ridiculous. Even with future tech, as a bare minimum you need commander, gunner, driver. One guy focuses on what the tank should be doing (commander), one guy focuses on shooting what he's told to shoot (gunner), one guy focuses on moving the tank
where it's supposed to go (driver). Both the Russians and the French learned this the hard way in WWII when they got eaten alive by grossly inferior German tanks that had proper division of labour amongst the crews. The mini-turret machine gunner doesn't count since he doesn't help drive, command, or fire the main armament. He is excess baggage.

Yeah, it's mainly ground attack - your average ork plane is actually quite like an A-10, despite looking like a 50s MiG - they can take a beating (comparatively, vehicle-wise they're not amazing) and are overloaded with weaponry. Unlike the A10, they're actually fast, because orks don't like anything slow

A10 won't stall just by firing the gun. Engine output is ~18,000 lbf, the gun generates ~10,000 lbf, so no, you won't outright stall unless you fly just over stall speed.

K class Submarine:
>Royal Navy wanted a fleet sub: ie, fast enough to keep up with the fleet on the surface, then able to submerge to attack enemy fleet
>Couldn't get the 21 knot speed requirement even with triple screw diesels, so steam turbines were selected
>submerging involved pouring water on the furnaces, collapsing the funnels and sealing the boiler flues, which took about 30 minutes.
>Absolute abortion of a sub: Length 40m greater than her own max depth, handled like a bag of smashed arse, fuck all reserve buoyancy.

Their service record was as follows:

>K13 sank on 19 January 1917 during sea trials when an intake failed to close whilst diving and her engine room flooded. She was eventually salvaged and recommissioned as K22 in March 1917.
>K1 collided with K4 off the Danish coast on 18 November 1917 and was scuttled to avoid capture.
>Two boats were lost in an incident known as the Battle of May Island on 31 January 1918. The cruiser HMS Fearless collided with the head of a line of submarines, K17, which sank in about 8 minutes, whilst other submarines behind her all turned to avoid her. K4 was struck by K6 which almost cut her in half and was then struck by K7 before she finally sank with all her crew. At the same time K22 (the recommissioned K13) and K14 collided although both survived. In just 75 minutes, two submarines had been sunk, three badly damaged and 105 crew killed.

>K5 was lost due to unknown reasons during a mock battle in the Bay of Biscay on 20 January 1921. Nothing further was heard of her following a signal that she was diving, but wreckage was recovered later that day. It was concluded that she exceeded her safe maximum depth.
>K15 sank at her mooring in Portsmouth on 25 June 1921. This was caused by hydraulic oil expanding in the hot weather and contracting overnight as the temperature dropped and the consequent loss of pressure causing diving vents to open.
>K16 and K12 were both trapped on the bottom of Gareloch; their crews were luckier than that of K13 in that after several hours submerged they managed to claw their way back to the surface.
>K3 held the unofficial record for maximum diving depth (266 feet (81 m)) following an uncontrolled descent to the bottom of the Pentland Firth.
>K4 ran aground on Walney Island in January 1917

That's a weird ass angle of attack those guys are flying at
The engines are a good six feet above the gun at level flight and the muzzle is tilted downwards at a slight angle, and most of the gases would be sucked into the bypass rather than the combustion chamber.

Knocking out the death star in return for a few fighter sis a Pyrrhic victory? They probably went a few million to one in casualties and trillions to fuck all economically, if you can't take that then you're in the wrong fucking war.

The Halo array comes to mind.. I mean.. wiping an entire galaxy clean of sentient life? That's pretty absurd.
>>
>>34690287
Um... have you read about what the fuck they were facing down?
It should be argued that the original array was considerably more variable, as it could be tuned down to a planet-wide scale (or used as intergalactic artillery). The newer Array installations might be capable of the same (maybe not the intergalactic artillery part), but without direct statements from 343, that is just conjecture.

That being said, the original purpose of the Array being built - to ensure permanent Forerunner dominance, with any that stepped out of line potentially being taught a lesson about the cost of defiance by a directed pulse from one of the installations - was a bit sketch.

"During that period of war, the Allies were losing a large number of warships and supply ships to German submarines known as U-boats in the Atlantic. Aircrafts were very efficient at destroying surfaced U-boats. But the Aircrafts did not have adequate range to cover the entire Atlantic. If a Aircraft landing platform could be built in the middle of the ocean, then the U-boats could be put under serious pressure. Moreover, there was a shortage of aluminum and steel. Pyke took the challenge to solve this problem and realized the ice was the answer as ice takes only 1% of energy needed to make an equal amount of steel.

The project’s name was taken from the Bible. Even the project’s goal was a quote from it: “… be utterly amazed, for I am going to do something in your days that you would not believe, even if you were told.” -Bible (NIV), Habakkuk 1:5

But ice proved unsuitable as natural icebergs have very small surface above water for aircrafts to land, are prone to roll over and splits easily. Pyke then proposed a frozen composite called Pykrete, made of 14% sawdust or wood pulp and 86% water. It melted slower than ice, had the strength and toughness as good as that of concrete. A small prototype of the Habakkuk Bergship was constructed at Patricia Lake in Alberta, Canada. It was 60 feet (18 m) by 30 feet (9m), weighing 1,000 tons and a one-horsepower motor was used to keep it frozen. The final design was required to be 2000 feet (610m) long with a 40 feet (12m) thick hull to withstand any torpedo attack. An extensive cooling system was to be used to prevent the melting of the pykrete. It was supposed to have a displacement of 2.2 million tons carrying 150 aircrafts. In December 1943, in the last meeting of the project, it was officially concluded that Habakkuk II had been found to be impractical due to huge cost in the range of $100 million was involved."
