karatefag here, 13 years was at one point the youngest black belt in ohio. Kamas are a meme. I have been in several hundred bukido matches (weapons sparing) in which you immediately lose if the opponent hits you not trading blows like hema. Ive owned like a half dozen pairs of kamas some of which were pretty sharp and they are just a shitty cutting shape. Sai blow them out of the water because theres a 100 percent chance its constructed well. I have a pair of sais i got when I was a kid and I would crush fucking rocks with them and throw them as hard as I could at stuff.

Long weapons aren't as good as everyone thinks, not even half as good. You need friends or armor for them to work. Its literally 50 50 chance for the enemy to just walk past the tip of your weapon or baseball bat it aside. God forbid you both have long weapons with points because you are BOTH going to die 3/4 times. Two handed swords are simply the most effective one on one weapon if you don't have armor.

It's more about having a counterweight on the end and swinging that instead. Try trapping their weapon and then attack with the kama. Takes a lot of practice though.
