10mm is a better cartridge ballistically. .357 sig has higher sectional density when bullets are the same weight between the two. 10mm will have higher sectional density as you increase the bullet weight. 10mm is overall better, and I see it a making a big resurgence in the coming years as everyone is buying them. That's a glock 40 btw

Probably the Sig since it was designed with penetration in mind.

10mm will cause bigger wound cavitation making it more likely to cause more damage to the Medulla. The 10mm will be much less survivable and making it more likely to achieve your goal.

I don't know why you couldn't get 9mm or .40 S&W for target shooting. The cost of ammo will eat you alive with 10mm or .357 Sig. Do you want to use this in bear country?

Several things:
-You're not going to CC a 10mm, even a g29 is THICC
-10mm is a good option because you can just shoot 40sw for plinking all day
-get a G20. It's not ridiculous as a g40, and if you really want the extra ballistics, get a long barrel.

If you want MO BETTA than .357 get the 10mm. Full power 10mm regularly exceeds 700 ft/lbs of energy. It's more powerful than .357 magnum.

IMHO .357 sig runs more like .357 mag terminally. With top of the line ammo you're missing out on about 100fps with a 4" barrel between the two. Both do the whole expand like a 9mm but penetrate deeper and do much better through intermediate barriers thing. While it's true that 135gr 10mm can be run around 1600fps(same velocity as 125gr .357mag) it seems most of those rounds penetrate a little less while expanding more than .357 mag. i guess thats dude to them having slightly more energy but notably more diameter.

I prefer 357 Sig over 10mm because it's faster on average which makes it flatter shooting than the 10mm while keeping higher sectional density at lower bullet weights. The 10mm has a huge weight and loading advantage but the 357 Sig has bullets up to 180gr which have been tested to actually show improved penetration over similar 10mm loads. 10mm is better for handloaders and hunters but I trust the 357 more for cracking through hard surfaces like windshields because of the enhanced velocity.

There are two ways that this phrase is used in the gun community. The first way is to indicate relative muzzle flip. In this case, you're right, the .357 Sig has less muzzle flip and a slightly softer recoil impulse than 10mm.

The other way this phrase is used - and what I believe to be the technically more correct use - is bullet drop at distances. If that's how you meant it, then what kinds of distances do you shoot handguns that this is even a factor??

This is factually incorrect. Hard barrier penetration is a factor of projectile momentum, which .357 Sig has less of than 10mm. Momentum is mass times velocity. The difference in velocity between the two cartridges is proportionally less than the difference in mass.
