The same issue of corruption, politics and decision making to in favour of nepotism can be perfectly seen when taking a look at indias INSAS rifle production, as well as the past 6 or something tenders within the last 2 years to find someone to produce a rifle that actually works since the troops in the kashmir region are in dire need of something that isnt either a broken insas, a 100 year old ishapore SMLE or sterling subguns that have their barrels shot out into smoothbores.

India came to be an economic world power by enacting a currency exchange embargo and thus basically brute forcing in country production and kickstarting the internal economy by creating a need for india produced products and materials.
Im fairly certain that while the exchange embargo has been dropped many years ago, India still follows the mindset of having most consumer goods domestically produced (see TATA which basically produces everything from cars to cellphones) and applies that mindset to military hardware as well.... and while this seems to be standard business practice in all corners of the world (french MAS, Colt rifles for the us army, german tanks by KMW etc) - in india it tends to bring the problems mentioned earlier with it.
Sometimes I just want to start a pool to see if india can get its poo'd up small arms program running before 2030, or if it will forever fail and they will switch to isreali products like some parts of the indian armed forces have already done.

Then again I look at VDL and the german MODs fight with H&K. Apparently incompetence and corruption can be found anywhere and everywhere, just with less poo outside of the loo
