What does it take for a round to get past the cycle of "It's not popular because no one shoots it and no one shoots it because it's not popular"?
>>
To be good. Its taking time, but because it performs well in its niche, people are starting to take .300 blk seriously. As opposed to .41 AE, which nobody shoots because it is shit, literally .40 SW with half the velocity and muzzle energy. This obviously doesn't work every time, 10mm is excellent but is simply too snappy for a large portion of the gun buying public, so will never be any bigger than it is.
>>
Literally just having cheap ammo available for it.
See 6.5 grendel.
>>
>>34595518
>10mm is excellent
Please explain how you reached this conclusion.
There's loads of data on why .40 S&W and .45 ACP are basically just low capacity 9mm, but .357 magnum has significantly higher one shot drop % according to FBI stats and 10mm is around a mid-high factory .357 load, but you never see any hard ballistics data on either.
>>
>>34595571
Not the same anon, I think anon just meant that it's sufficiently powerful for most uses
>>
>>34595571
Name an autoloader in .357 that--
>isn't a special-snowflake that costs over$1000
AND
>is still manufactured, and has parts manufactured for it as well
AND
>is of comparable build quality and reliability to the average 10mm handgun
>>
>>34595837
So .357 Sig?
>>
>>34595837
>>34595571
You guys talking about .357 magnum?
>>
>>34595433
It takes popularity/volume for a round to become cheap, and thus, even more popular. It seems like the most popular rounds were all used by the military at some point, so they had the volume(by military orders) and popularity(by being ordered by civilians for being used in the military).

Otherwise, just being decent is sometimes enough to become popular. 300blk is catching on, even though it doesn't have any military use other than than some foreign country ordering like 300 guns chambered in it. It isn't quite cheap enough for me to consider it being super popular like 223 or 9mm though.

Then theres 6.5 grendal like >>34595540 mentioned. Wolf makes cheap 6.5 grendal for some reason, I'd never even heard of it until like 6 months ago.

So to answer your question, I'd say the manufacturers roll a d20 or some shit.
>>
>>34595837
Uh... excuse me?
I just want someone to explain /why/ .357 mag or 10mm are good enough to justify the kick. Where's the ballistic data? If FBI stats are any good at face value then .22 LR is stronger than all of the big three pistol calibers, so obviously there's other factors at play in the real world. I'd say .357 has such a high one shot stop because the shooter is much more careful when they can count their follow up potential on one hand, GSG-9 agrees. That's why we need real ballistic testing, but to my knowledge the last time anyone seriously tested 10mm was over 25 years ago, and bullets and powder have changed since. That's why I'm asking if he has some data I don't.

>>34596020
>for some reason
6.5x39 is much bigger in Russia than the US. Wolf is of course Russian. They're also big on some 8mm thing that escapes me right now.
>>
>>34596020
>I'd never even heard of it until like 6 months ago.

I read about it something like over a decade ago when it first came out, then it kind of disappeared until recently.
>>
>>34595433
Military/law enforcement adoption is a huge one.
>>
>>34595433
Marketing, availability, and investment.

You need factories producing the ammo, guns being produced chambered for it, and people actually talking about it/aware that it all exists.
>>
>>34595540
can you imagine if wolf/tula started making 220gr 300 blackout?

That cartridge would rapidly transition from semi-meme to fucking awesome.

>>34596333
you mean the 9x39?
>>
>>34595433
Military adoption is the most obvious one

Other calibers got big through the hunting community (which really isn't growing like it used to) and other government entities (fuck you FBI for killing 10mm in favor of 40S&W)
>>
>>34597235
I wish somebody would make a pistol based on the cz52 action for 5.7fn
>>
>>34596333

Because you need to quit being such a bitch. It doesn't even kick hard. It feels like an actual gun instead of a toy.
>>
>>34597508
No, but it was indeed a 9, not an 8. 9x53mmR.

>>34597606
Machismo won't make your follow up shots any faster, and unless you're wearing ear pro 24/7 you'll find that a defensive situation with 10mm would beeeeeeeeeEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Fucking pussy. I've been shooting regularly for 20 years without earplugs and have had no problems.

I bet you cant even shoot a sub 3" group at 40 yards.

10mm is a meme round.

All you need is a stiff spring and a box of 45 super

>>34599420
>>34599446
As expected, no arguments and no data. Enjoy your literal meme ammo.

Military/law enforcement adoption.
It could be the shittest piece of shit ever made yet if the military adopts it for whatever reason its popularity will skyrocket.

eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

>>34595571
Well, theres been much more recorded usage of .357 mag than hotter loaded 10mm or any 10mm for that matter. So of course you're gonna find higher one stop drop uses with the .357
>>
>>34595884
Lower end of 10but fits the bill

Military adoption.
>>
>>34599553
>calling .375 H&H meme ammo
Have you any knowledge of big game hunting?
>>
shitload of cheap surplus
>>
>>34595433

Reloaders picking it up and creating a large aftermarket for brass and bullet components. This will naturally translate into limited runs, then seasonal runs, followed by year-round production.
>>
>>34595433
short of military/police adoption most rounds need to rely on pseudo military adoption or memetic popularity. its not called .458 SOCOM and .300 blackout for no reason the round's creators are try to imply military usage.
>>
>>34596730
So much this. I can't fathom why those Ruskies haven't started churning it out yet.
>>
>>34595433
Someone has to make guns for it first, and then people have to be able to get ammo for it at a reasonable price. It's easier now with the internet. Before, you had to go to a store, ask for it, and when they didn't have it, you were fucked.
>>
>>34605084
This would be why .300 blackout is leaving meme status. Standard available bullets, standard parent brass, readily adaptable to the AR 15 lower and bolt gives you something that is distinct from the run of the mill AR crowd but isn't too much trouble to get.

Basically crack to a reloader.
>>
>>34604877
Not even just hunting, its one of the famous rifle cartridges ever and it was the father of hundreds of other rounds.
