Mid-80's Cold War a e s t h e t i c thread.
Post both filthy NATO and glorious Warsaw Pact soldiers and equipment from the mid-1980's.
Yugos and Chinks included too.
Berlin Brigade camouflage
The Pershing II missile.
Scary shit.

When is this from? I thought the Type-99 was a relatively modern tank? Or is it an older vehicle?

Very low warning time, launchers had to be located near conventional targets, and it gave the US a numerical advantage it could range the USSR while the Soviets needed treaty limited and more expensive ICBMs to hit the US.

Harrier Gr5 at least became operational a whole month before 80's ended.
Last one for right now.
So assuming that the cold war went hot in the mid-80s, and did not escalate to a MAD scenario, who stood the best chance of winning?
To me it seems like The soviet union would completely bust through in the beginning stages but would be fucked the longer the war dragged on. Is this a correct assumption?
>>34599657

>>34603100
>would be fucked the longer the war dragged on
Why tho?
>>34603309
USSRs economy was flat on its ass by the 80s, they still looked threatening at the time but with hindsight they would have been flattened, especially with the US present.
>>34603309
US shifting into a War Economy as well as moving most of its forces into Europe not to mention the fact that China would most likely enter the war on the side of the united states so it would be the whole world against the warsaw pact. Add into that the internal division of the USSR and they pretty much have to pray for a quick treaty for an end to the war.
I'm the OG poster though so this is a lot of assumptions
>>34603100
Basically yes, USSR would have pulled a hitler, broke through everywhere at the start then had it fall apart very quickly
The Soviet economy was on its knees by the 80's and society was basically being held together with blue tape and pure insanity, the system would have collapsed completely if it had to deal with the pressure of fighting the largest war in history
>>34603378
Peace time economy is different than war economy.
It's best speculating USSR cold war gone hot economy would be like WW2, but with steroids.

>>34603510
>Subsidised by the United States of America?
Are you talking about Lend Lease?
If so, then I fear you are incorrect. Lend Lease was a great help, indeed. But saying it's the factor that made SU bolster its production is morbidly foolishly exaggerated. (or mere memery).
In fact, US lend lease with Brtian worth much more than what was send to the East.

>>34598481
Probably tried to smash the barrier and the track broke.
Hitting the barrier broke away a large chunk of track cover from the hull.
For some reason, the turret is rotated back. Could be to prevent the barrel from hitting the barrier.
What broke the first barrier remains a mystery.

I pretty sure that lot of warpac nations were essentially on brink of open rebellion against Soviets in 80's. In case war with NATO, puppet states would have imploded on the moment war starts to civil war if no to outright war against Soviets. Soviet union didn't have allies, it had slaves.
